10 Tips to Become a Better Blogger in 2011

Become a Better Blogger

1 more day to go before we wave 2010 goodbye. It will be a brand new year for all. This will be the last post of 2010 for Findmyblogway. I am fully enjoying my blogging in this valuable year. What about you? Did you achieve your goals this year? Have you done what you supposed to do or did you missed some task that you are supposed to complete?

Whatever you have/have not done, no point looking back with regrets. We should be focusing on the coming year as a brand new start allows you to chase back some lost time. What can you do to become a better blogger in 2011?

Here are 10 tips for your consideration:

1. Define your goals

What do you want to achieve in 2011? Sit down and think about it. The competition in blogging is getting tougher as years pass by. You need to keep your hee-ha attitude in check if you want to achieve something in 2011.

Be more serious. There are no more rooms for you to get away with a slack attitude. Set your goals and achieve it.

2. Plan your strategy

Apply what you have in mind. Work out a strategy will help you to focus and complete the task in shorter timeframe. Record the task you want to complete somewhere in a document file which you can access easily. Set a timeframe for each task and wipe it off once each task is completed.

3. Learn from your mistakes in 2010

This is the time for some self-reflection. What mistakes have you done in 2010? I am pretty sure you have done something right as well as something wrong this year. Keep your good blogging habits and throw away those that doesn’t help you.

4. Double your efforts

You may think you have put in a lot of hard work for your blog. There is always room for improvement. If you comment on 10 blogs per day, aim for 20 blogs. If you are commenting on 20, aim for 40. If you can attract 10 subscribers/day, try to aim for 20.

Double your efforts in your blogging activities will definitely see a growth in your blog for 2011.

5. Get your hands as dirty as you can

Fear will just hinder in everything that you do. Don’t be afraid to get your hands dirty. In fact, you should get your hands as dirty as possible. By getting your hands dirty, you will get an idea of what works and what doesn’t work. Execute and take action is what you need most in 2011.

6. Be more active in Facebook and Twitter

These two social media sites will be ruling 2011. They are the most commonly used by bloggers in 2010. You should be making full use of it. More and more bloggers will be installing a Facebook fan page in their blogs and Twitter has been the most popular medium for announcement when a new post go live.

If you are not using them in 2010, make sure you don’t give them the miss in 2011.

7. Don’t ignore mobile technology

Mobile technology is on the rise. I have talk about how a smartphone can help you in your blogging. People are using smartphones to access our blogs. As a blogger, you need to understand a mobile is not used simply by calling today. People are using them to do lots of things. emails, Facebook chats, Twitter chats, surfing web, reading blogs etc.

If your content is not access easily by a mobile platform, you need to make sure it works on mobile platform.

8. Engage more with other bloggers

Writing exceptional content alone will not be sufficient to bring you huge traffic in 2011.  Engaging and networking with other blogger should be on par with your content. Gone were the days when you publish an exceptional post and expect to welcome huge traffic. People love to interact more in 2011.

Make sure you are not left behind. You need to come out and start communicate with people.

9. Polish your skills

You need a lot of skills to succeed in blogging. The knowledge we need to cover is very wide and we need to pick up skills to help us become a better blogger. Whatever it is, learn whenever we can and do not hesitate to do some research on the internet. It’s all there for us to pick up.

10. Learn from people who has done it

Keep on learning and don’t hesitate to learn from people who has done it and see results. An example someone you can learn from is Onibalusi Bamidele from YoungPrePro. He just got his 1000 subscribers under eight months and that is a great achievement. It’s very generous of him to write a free ebook to share with us how he achieved that. You can download the ebook here. There are great tips inside and do practice what the ebook teaches. I believe you will see the benefits soon.

Have you set any goals for 2011? Are you ready to become a better blogger in 2011? What have you done to prepare yourself for a better year? Please do not hesitate to share with us your thoughts.

I hope by now you are all ready and well prepare to await for the arrival of 2011. Findmyblogway would like to wish everyone of you GOOD HEALTH and HAPPY NEW YEAR.

    HI Lye

You are certainly writing some quality posts and this is one of them :-)

Agree with you that writing down our goals and having them in a document will give us a place to check our progress. I am going to publish mine as a post next week.

I’m sure that there will be things I add as I move along with my blog and business in 2011.

Happy New Year Lye and may it be all you hope for and more.

    Hi Lye,

Thanks for sharing your accurate tips here.

Getting your hands dirty is on point. Experiment, experiment and experiment some more. It’s been said that a rocket fails itself to it’s goal; 95% of the time it’s off target but the rocket continues to correct itself until the destination is reached.

    Bloggers are no different ;)

    Have a Happy New Year!

Lye – Sadly I would have to say no. No I didn’t accomplish all that I wanted to accomplish this year, but I learned more than enough to accomplish even a bigger goal in 2011.

I liked all ten of your tips, but I really loved the message you had in number 4. Doubling my efforts is something I plan to do in this upcoming year and I know it’s going to be a lot of hard work but I’m ready to take on the challenge.

Thanks for the advice and I hope you have a successful 2011 year as well. Happy New Year.

    Hello Lye,

Great post, and great advice! I have a couple questions though:

In regards to #6 – What advice would you give for engaging people on twitter? I know there’s plenty of advice about this all over the internet, but what has worked for you?

As far as “getting you hands dirty” goes – If someone is outsourcing different aspects of their blog, which duties would you recommend be kept “in-house”? And vice-versa, what aspects of blogging do you think can be safely outsourced?

    Thanks again!

I have a high percentage of traffic coming from Twitter. Thanks to the retweets by my blogging friends. I like to use Twitter in engaging with my blog friends. It’s an useful tool for interaction.

I think what duties to outsource depends on individuals. For me, the design aspect is definitely one i will be outsourcing.

      Thanks a lot for asking.

Ah, ok. The trouble I’ve always had with twitter is that, with the limited characters (140), it can be difficult to engage anyone, and not sound like a spammer. Do you have any tips for avoiding this pitfall?

Actually, rather than doubling your effort, try to add a new skill to your repertoire to be more efficient. I find that actually over time, I’m discovering new methods to run my blog more efficiently. I’m actually getting more results on less time, but it comes from experimenting and doing different things.

    January 4, 2011 | 2:25 am

    Hi Lye,

The first point is definitely solid. In order to start acting and do the right things, you need to have a pretty clear idea of what you want to achieve. Setting a goal is not as easy as it sounds though. Either way whatever the goal, dreaming big (or in other words dreamlining – a term I discovered over at Steve Scott’s site) is the key . That way you can give 100% and even though you might not achieve the initial goal, you will still get a lot further than you would normally.

Especially agree on your fourth point as well. There’s always space for improvement and we should utilize it, no matter how small it is. It might seem hard, but at the end it proves to be well worth it.

Great work! Agreed on all other points!

All the points are good but point 5 is a little too risky, isn’t it easier to read on forums, ask other bloggers/experts etc. what is allowed to do and what isn’t ? And what about link exchanging, isn’t it another great method of being a better (known) blogger? hehe. Cheers mate !

It is late into 2011 but then I must say that these tips are all very useful. As a blogger having goals is very important as you can have a target of what you want to achieve by a certain time. Planning also goes hand in hand with setting goals as you have to plan on how you are going to work to achieve your goal.
