3 Ways How a Smartphone is Capable of Reducing Your Blogging Workload

Smartphones

I don’t exactly know how many smartphones users are there in the world but I believe the amount should be enormous. The phones are getting smarter now. The days of just using it for calling is way lost in the universe. The commence of 3G network is a revolution as you find yourself easily surfing the internet even without connecting to any wireless broadband if your mobile plans allow you.

There are a number of routine task a blogger must undertake everyday depending on how many hours he allocated to it. Some of you may be a full time blogger, you tend to have longer time to work for your blog. For those of you who are holding a full time job like me, using a smartphone is a breeze as you can assess the internet easily to do some of the blogging tasks.

What are the tasks we need to do in a regular basis?

Writing your Content – I won’t say it is a daily affair but that depends on your posts updates frequency.

Read other blogs - You need to keep track on the latest trend and keep a close read on the blogs you visited daily.

Commenting in other blogs and your blog – You need to respond to your blog comments and give comments in other blogs.

Checking your email – How often one checks his/her emails depend on individual. For me I check daily.

Social Networking – Tweeting, retweeting and chatting with your blog friends in Twitter and Facebook.

There are a few others like designing and tweaking your blog, writing your ebook etc.

Out of the five tasks that I listed above, how many do you think a smartphone can help you to complete the task? I make use of my iphone to perform four out of the five. Apart from writing post which I still prefer writing on a keyword, the rest can be completed using my smartphone. Of course I don’t do that when I am at work. I use it during my lunch time or break time. At any point of the time at night when my family needs me or when my computer is not on, I use it to do some simple tasks.

There are 3 ways which your smartphone is able to help you in blogging:

1. It helps you to build relationship

Twitter – There are a number of social networking appearances that you can download. Whenever I have a retweet or direct message, I will get inform by a tone. I can then go to the Twitter appearances to thank the other party or chat with them. Pat, fyi when I am chatting with you i am in the iphone mode :)

Facebook – The time when you receive a friends request or message, you will be able to access in a short time.

2. It reduces your time for routine blogging activities at night

Google reader – If you are a subscriber for a huge number of blogs, you are taking longer time to finish reading every single new post. You don’t have to wait until night to read it at one time. You can make use of your travelling time to read up the post in your smartphone. This is especially useful if you have too many blogs inside your Google reader.

Writing a comment – There are times when I read a post and I feel like giving comments, I just go to the site itself and give a comment. I don’t have to wait till night when I reach home for that. It’s a media for me to respond to comments in my post too.

3. It helps you to check your email

Gmail – Due to time differences, I may receive emails or request from bloggers to guest post in Findmyblogway. I am able to respond fast as access of my email is just a button away.

This may seems unnecessary but there is one BIG advantage that your smartphone can provide you while reducing your blogging workload.

Keep your focus on the most important task:

Writing good content – The most important task that you need to complete. This is your bread and butter which determine the survival of your blog. You should not have any distractions when you are writing for your post. There are some suggestions given requiring you to shut down the internet and focus on writing. Do not open the email etc.

It surely doesn’t feel good to accumulate the routine activities that you need to do. If you miss reading other blogs for a day, the post may add up to a number that you will have problem clearing in the next day. Your commenting will get lesser and everything just jams up altogether. You are going to take a longer time to complete everything. Do make use of smartphone to share your blogging workload if you can.

I am interested to know. How many of you make use of your phones to do your blogging activities? Does it help? Please leave a comment to share with us your thoughts.

Share and Enjoy

I appreciate your kindness if you can share this post making use of the share buttons below or at the side. Alternatively, any retweeting of the post is helpful to my blog growth. Thank you very much for doing so. I look forward to see you soon.

    Hi Lye

Firstly I love the new Headway theme. You’ve done a good job :-)

Funny that you should do a post on this. Me being the non-techie, yet I have been thinking about iphones and all that they can do.

Not that I would be able to figure out all the apps and anyway no money for that at the moment. But I was thinking about them!

Sounds like they are very handy when you are on the move. I work from home so am on my laptop most of the time. But can see how handy it can be for you.

      Hi Samuel,

You can get distracted easily but we should remember to use it as a assist not the main tool. We should use it whenever we are not accessing the computers.

Thanks for sharing your opinion brother.

    Hi Lye,

You definitely have made some good points! Smartphones are getting smarter by the day and thus getting some of the more simpler blogging tasks done, becomes possible. I can’t really say that I’m utilizing the full potential of my phone when it comes to blogging. Maybe sending some updates over Twitter, but this happens rather occasionally. While writing an entire post is absolutely out of the question for me, throwing a few comments here and there is definitely achievable. Writing on my small 3.2″ display is quite a daunting task though.

      Hi Daniel,

Definitely, it’s still better to write a post using a keyboard. The small screen is only enough for us to write some comments and tweets.

I used it most to thank my blog friends for retweeting my post.

      Thanks for the comments.

Great post, Lye! I actually do NOT have a smartphone, but I really want one. The current phone I have is about 5 years… That’s about 100 years old in cell phone years!

I can definitely see how a smart phone could help with blogging; I just don’t want to buy one. And I would REALLY like an iPad, but again, the cost of one is prohibitively expensive for me right now.

    Thanks!

      Hi Tristan,

It actually depends on your usage. As you work full time and spend most of your time by the computer, i believe you can get it for other usage. In future, i believe most of the basic phone should have 3G network and a normal phone can help us to share our blogging workload.

      Thanks for commenting. Much appreciated.

Some very good points you mentioned here about using technology Lye.

I am a huge fan of gizmos and gadgets; smart phone is definitely one of them. I don’t have one yet simply because I don’t think I have any use for it. To tell you the truth, I don’t have time to use the internet on the phone. But like you said it could certainly come in handy for doing basic stuffs regarding blogging.

      Hi Adam,

I like your point. We should be getting something we need and have use for it. It certainly doesn’t make sense to own a smartphone if you are not utilizing the functions.

      Thanks for the comments.

Lye – I haven’t made the jump to an iPhone and the 3G network yet, but I am planning on getting a droid this Christmas and I’m looking forward to it.

The main reasons why I want a smart phone is for the reasons you gave in this post. I can check my emails, read through blogs, enjoy twitter, and many more things on the go.

So I can definitely say I will be using my smart phone for my blogging activities when I finally get one at the end of the year.

There are just so many things we can do with a smartphone now. I believe why this helps as it saves you the hassle of turning on your computer everytime to reply a tweet or an email. You can complete the task at your fingertips.

Smart phones have really revolutionized communication on almost all levels. The best thing is that they are portable and are able to perform many tasks that a computer can also perform. In short if you have a smart phone then it is like a mini computer. Using smart phones for blogging is also a good idea as you can do your blogging anywhere as well as connect with your followers and family on various social networks.
