6 Things That I Learn About Blogging While Playing Football Manager

Football Manager

I am a self confessed football fan. I grew up watching English Premiership football and naturally a football manager game addict which simulates being a manager of a football club of my choice. As i am more familiar with English league, i always started the game by taking charge of a English club. I always love to choose a club from the lowest league as it is more challenging. I hope you are not bore by now. This is not a post talking about football. Recently i am quite surprise to find that just by playing my favorite game gives me an idea to write a post on how football manager can teach me in blogging.

What Does Football Manager Got To Do With Blogging

1. Setting a target

Regardless of what division we are playing or which club we have chosen, we need to have a target. For example when i choose a lower league club, my aim was to bring them up to the Premiership the highest league in England. You need to have some targets and goals too for your blog. Blogging is not as simple as you can think of. Starting a blog and publish it is an easy task. What about after that? You need to have a schedule like how many posts to publish in a weeks time and what results do you want to see in your blog in a month or in a year.

2. Scouting and buying of players

This is the most attracting feature of playing football manager. You have the luxury to scout for the right players to join your team and purchase them. There is a lot of scouting to be done before the decision is taken to make the purchase. Likewise in blogging, you can find  a lot of products related to your niche. Be it a theme, tools, courses, eBooks or any other products, you need to do some scouting before you commit to fork out your hard earn money. In football manager, there is a tendency the players that we purchased may not be performing and we need to sell them to make room for new players. If that happens after you purchase the products, you need to make the decision to discard it and make room for new products that works to your expectation.

3. A good coaching team

We need a good coaching team to bring the best out from the players. In blogging, networking and building a community with other bloggers is a must. A blogging buddy or mentor will be able to provide some help whenever you face any problems during your blogging journey. Bloggers are not always alone. In fact we are working side by side with each other. Bloggers are a helpful lot. Most are willing to help if being asked. Don’t be afraid to approach for help whenever you need it.

4. Adjusting tactics and formations

Different opposition will require different tactics and formation. We must adjust accordingly based on what our opposition used. There is a lot of consideration in order for our blogs to be successful. Not only we need to publish great content, we need to consider other factors such as making use of SEO, social media, backlinks or any other factors that can grow our blog. We can’t stick to one method as there is no single foolproof method that can take care of all. We need to adjust and act accordingly to bring out the best of our blogs.

5. Patience is the key

In order for a lower league club to reach the summit of the English Premier league may take few seasons or even more than ten seasons. Patience is definitely required if we want to reach the initial target. There is no guarantee that your blog will take off after few months. Sometimes it may take years. You need to be extra patient if want to see success in your blog. Keep on working according to schedule will ultimately see your blog taken off as your patience is finally paying off.

6. Maintaining the success

Once your target is reached doesn’t mean your job is done. Whatever success we have, we need to maintain and improve on it. One of the challenges facing bloggers is you need to keep on learning. The whole internet world keep on evolving. There is no way stepping on the same place and indulging on the success that is achieved. Upgrading and learning new things is the way to maintain the success.

Conclusion

Above are the six things i have learned while playing football manager. What do you think about the points listed above? Is it helpful to you in any ways? Please kindly share your thoughts in the comments box.

    Hi Lye,

I enjoyed your analogy. Although I’ve never done fantasy football type stuff I can see the attraction to it. Your analogy about trading up when an affiliate product or opportunity isn’t working is very clever. Never hesitate to let go and grow, making room for a more profitable opportunity.

    Thanks for sharing your insight.

      Hi Ryan,

I am glad you enjoyed it. You are right about the analogy, i believe there are simply too many products to choose. Sometimes you wouldn’t know whether it works until you purchased it. There are too many scam products around.

Thanks for the support and comments Ryan. Talk soon.

Hey Lye, very unique post. I like how you compared blogging with football. I like your headline for this article, too. It gives the reader something they can related to (football). :)

    HI Lye
I lived and worked in England for many years so had to get to understand their football. Our game in Australia is completely different. I love the analogy too.
Blogging is such fun but also hard work if we want to succeed. As we all encourage one another to keep going it will happen.
You seem to have it covered so now all we need to do is kick that winning goal :-)

      Hi Patricia,

Glad you like the post. I was afraid nobody will comment since the analogy comes from football. But you dismiss that.

Thanks for great support. See you and talk soon.

    Hi Lye

As a huge sportsfan and lots of hours with FM behind me I completely understand what you mean here but never see it before I read your post.

When I played a lot I always used to start with a low division team and bring them up, just for the challenge.

    Thanks for another great post.

      Hi Knut,

Great to know you are a FM fan as well. Starting from a lower division is just like we are starting a blog from scratch. The theory is the same.

Awesome post and really great analogy Lye,

You always come up with great posts.

The point I love most is setting up a target. In everything, you should have a target and know what you want to achieve in your blogging career.

Thanks a lot for the great post,
