9 Things You Need To Stop Doing to Prevent Blog Failure

Stop doing these

I have published a post regarding 9 things you can’t stop doing in order to blog your way to success. I like to do a bit of reverse analysis. What are the things you need to stop doing or else your blog will end in failure. Bloggers know it’s extremely hard to gain a bit of success even if you do everything right but just one wrong move will cause your blog to fail in an instant.

Nobody wants to see that happen. Thats why we need to be extra careful on things that we do online. We need to focus on doing the right things while eliminate doing the wrong things that will affect our blog tremendously.

9 Things You need to Stop Doing to Prevent Blog Failure

There are certain things you need to keep on doing while you blog and there are 9 things you actually need to stop doing if you don’t want your blog to fail. What are they?

1. Stop writing (crap)

It doesn’t mean you need to stop writing. In fact you need to keep on writing if you want to see success. You need to write when you are in the mood. Stop writing any post if you are out of ideas and don’t let stress come into you. Writing should be done in a relax and clear mind condition. Focus on quality and not on quantity. Writing in a rush will cause you to produce crap pieces of content. Writing crap content consistently will see your traffic drops and hurt your blog in long term.

2. Stop Copying

It’s totally fine if your post ideas does not comes from you but the content must be written originally by you. It depends on how you going to interpret a content with your own thoughts and voice. Never never steal or copy other blogger’s content and put it as your own. It’s not only unethical to steal other blogger’s content but it can infringe the copyrights of the original author’s works too.

This can be very serious as not only it will hurt your blog credibility and you as a person too. Once you start doing that, it’s difficult for you to gain other’s trust again. Once trust is lost, there is no way back for you to see success in your online business.

3. Stop Lying

Nobody can claim to know everything in this world. If you don’t know something, never act as though you are the expert and start bluffing your way through. You can’t keep it for long. The correct way is to admit you don’t know but you are willing to find out about the answer and learn. Again trust will be lost if people find out that you are lying.

If you are starting a blog to make money, there is nothing wrong to tell people about it. If you are just blogging for fun or passion, just tell people that. There should be total transparency even though people are not seeing us face to face.

4. Stop hiding

Don’ hide yourself after your blog is up and alive. This is just the beginning. Come on out and show your face. Talk to everyone who have visited your blog. Go on and talk to others in their blog. You may not be the best communicator but people will know if your are sincere enough to establish a relationship. Just a simple “Hi” is enough for you to start a conversation.

Don’t be overwhelmed by the numbers of bloggers online. They are all nice people. It’s important to have a few good blog mates as anytime you can turn to them for help if you encounter any difficulties.

5. Stop ranting

Unless your domain name is rantingguru.com, else you should stop ranting at other bloggers or anyone whom you disagree with. Controversial post may stir the curiosity of people but you need to rant rationally. Ranting irrationally will become a slander to others. This will get you in trouble with the law. Worst case if your visitors think you are going too much, they will desert you straight away. These things need to be consider before you decide ranting is your way to voice your opinions.

Do not engage in a heated argument with anyone in the blogosphere. You need to understand everyone is subject to his own opinions. You can’t expect others to agree with you just because you think so.

6. Stop Procrastinating

Procrastinating is something we will face at certain time of our life. It not only affect our choice but sometimes will cause us to miss the timing. We need to stop procrastinating about the things we decide to do. An idea came out in your mind, write it down, plan a schedule and start taking action. Set a deadline for your plan will help you to stop procrastinating.

It can be harmful to you if you keep on delaying your plans thinking there is always time to finish it. Any successful online business needs people to start carry out the idea and start working on it. Opportunity can be lost if you procrastinate about doing something.

7. Stop Searching

Let’s say you want to make money online, you search for the internet for it. My god, there are 417 million results. You click on one site, not satisfied, you go on to click another site. You keep searching in the internet but you end up accomplish nothing. Internet is full of information. You don’t have to know every site, every blog or everything related to your niche. Don’t stuff yourself with too much information until you don’t know what to do.

Find an authority in your niche. Observe him. What he do and how he do. The next thing you need is “to do”. Others can be use as reference but not as a distraction to you.

8. Stop guessing

Stop your guessing game. You can’t depend on guessing to make it big online. You need to research on the facts. This will put you in a good position to have a credible voice if you get your facts right. Think what you need to do, research it and show it. Guessing can give you 50/50 chance to get right or wrong. So don’t guess.

9. Stop spamming

This is hate by bloggers. If you want to promote anything, do it in a proper way. Stop spamming in other blogger’s comment box with full of stuff talking about how your site can help people to “bluh bluh bluh”. Not only it doesn’t help, but it makes people piss off by your actions.

If there is less spams, we don’t have to install captcha plugins making one more step for people to comment. So people, please stop spamming.

    Awwwwweeeeessssoommmmmeeee post Lye,

This is exactly the reason I love this blog and you’ve proved what you preach in this post again.

I love your point about stop writing crap and I am working on that for my blog. I know I write crap and I am working on a better schedule for my blog, it will revolve around write less but better posts.

I also love your point about not pretending to know what you don’t, I learned that the hard way.

As always, keep up the awesome work with your blog.

    Lye,

Awesome points! Being yourself, not lying, writing good content… all awesome things.

I would say the “rare” rant can be a good thing. It can help people to know your personality. The key word being “rare” I can think of 1 real “rant” I have done in about 4 months.

Like you said unless your site is a “rant” site, it should be rare. But if it is heartfelt, mixing one in every few months can be a good thing, IMO

      Hi Steve,

Ranting is definitely an art. I don’t oppose ranting in blogs as long as i still learn something out of it. We just need to take note not to hurt any blogger from the ranting.

Thanks for dropping by to show your support.

Super points here as always Lye, thanks for sharing.

Rant rationally. Luv that term ;) Railing in an intelligible manner is fine occasionally. Beyond that you’re a whiner, and winners don’t associate with whiners.

If we do any of the things listed above, we will be committing suicide. I am sure you won’t be doing that as you fully understand this will kill your site.

    Hi Lye,
Great points. I haven’t felt the need to do any rant postings, or copying, so I’m ahead on those couple of points. I am still working on improving my writing. I think I learn to improve my writing with each post I publish, so I’ll keep it up and just improve along the way.

There isn’t any need for those indeed. The only way you can improve is to write. Just keep on writing and you will see improvements.

    Hi Lye,

9 very important points for sure! Especially the stop writing crap point. =) (that gave me a little chuckle)

As for the ranting, I just don’t get it. I actually had joined a site once and stopped going just b/c of that. He ranted constantly about his personal issues with other bloggers and I just got tired of hearing it! Shame too because he had a good thing going. But I don’t expect it will last for long if he keeps that RANTING up.

    Thanks for sharing!

      Hi Michele,

It’s very difficult to use ranting as the way of blogging. There is certain risk there. Unless you got the facts and reason is at your side, high chance people will be turning off by the ranting.

I personally don’t like to see too much ranting on a blog as blogging should be enjoyable and fun, not making you even frustrated.

Thanks for dropping by and sharing your opinions.

Absolutely awesome. Solid and straight to the point and I must admit that at the very least I am guilty of making these mistakes at least once. Most important here to me is what you said about “to do”. Taking action is vital to a blogger’s success.

Can’t seem to find another point to add to this. Kudos

very frequent question we are all the time asking and wondering about !! excellent !! reading a lot about this helps a lot of writers, and beginners will take this seriously (since they have to:) ), i would focus on the “stop lying” and stop copying , stopping knowing what you don’t will be indispensable ,cause that shows everyone how to choose a perfect “subject” !!!

Two thumbs up for you Lye! Indeed, blog failure can’t be avoided but if your doing the right thing I am sure you’ll emerge to the top. Determination, confidence and passion are the elements you need in order for you to kick blog failure. Hence, blog success depends on the blogger itself.

I like all the tips here because so many bloggers fall in at leas one of those categories. They are either copying, ranting or claiming to know everything. This is so unprofessional and such bloggers end up losing almost all then readers it has. Excellent post.

These are the things that bloggers must remember because these nine things can lose readers trust easily. Once trust is lost, there is no way we can get it back.

      Thanks for the comments.
