This post is an expansion to my previous post basic understanding of Google Analytics. Google Analytics is an important tool to understand your blog performance. There are so many data that you can track on. I keep on stressing the need to analyse your traffic trend and not focus on the traffic numbers.
To fully unitize the usefulness of your trend analysis, you need to keep on publish more content and and a blog that exists longer definitely helps. You can select the date range to analyze based on your blogging goals but you don’t have to wait too long to start using the data you have collected. There are some common uses and below you will find some of them.
6 Ways How You Can Use From Your Blog Performance
1. Harnessing the power of your referral statistic
Blogging online requires to build a relationship with other bloggers. Your blog statistic gives you the perfect opportunity to do that. By knowing which referral that refer traffic to your sites, you can start a new relationship by visiting the site, publish comments and acknowledge their contributions. Start engaging with other bloggers and show your human nature.
2. Check out your most popular content
If you have a long list of posts, tendency some will do well while some may attract fewer eyeballs. Look for those popular content that do well and publish similar content. If these are the content that resonate with your audience, most likely your similar content will produce the same result.
3. Publish post on the days when you have high traffic
You can easily know from your Google Analytics which day do you receive the highest traffic. I have written a post regarding your best posting time. You may want to consider publish the post which you think have the best chance to be share by more people and gain maximum exposure.
4. Identify keywords which drive you traffic
A good understanding of your various keywords help you to know which keyword brings you traffic or do well in search engines. You can focus on the popular keywords and create new content out of it to drive the best traffic to your blog.
5. Revise Content that is underperforming
By looking at the bounce rate and top exit pages of your content, you will know which content is underperforming and not engaging your readers to stay on your blog longer. It’s not always the case. Give it new life by revising the content and add some useful content to make it more appealing.
6. Tracking your marketing results
You can monitor your marketing results if you have products up for sale. Products such as ebooks, announcement or a presentation. How and when that page is accessed, all can be determine by using your web analytics tool. The reason why we want to track this is to determine whether our promotional efforts are working on driving the targeted traffic to our specific pages or content. Understand these results allow us to tweak our current or future campaign.
Conclusion
It takes time to understand what your Google Analytics is trying to tell you. At the same time, figuring how to use it wisely can help you to reach your individual blogging goals. Now that you know the most common data you can analyze, you are able to know what to do with the data you have collected about your blog.

I just got a good idea from your post. I use GA but not even to 10% of its potential. I make sure to know which pages are money makers and then which have high bounce rate to fix them. Love combining GA with Clicky tool, for full details. It has improved my understanding of my visitors a lot

Hi Brankica,
Great to know you develop an idea from this post. I use Getclicky too. It’s pretty interesting to see both giving a huge difference on the visitors and bounce rate. I think both are helpful in different ways.
Thanks for dropping by my friend.

Hi Lye,
It’s a nice post no doubt about it but I’ve a query if you can resolve it. By GA you can see from which site you have received traffic right? Does it possible that you can find out from which particular page in the referring site you have received visits?

Hi Riya,
If people click your site(a link) from a certain page of other blogs, you should be able to see if you click on that blog.
Thanks for asking.

I think that “keywords” are the most valuable piece of info that Google Analytics offers. Practically, you get to see what your users are interested in, and then use this info in your future posts. Of course, your users would want diversity, but still you have plenty of details to define a niche for yourself.

Hi Mia,
Yes, some of the ideas i have comes from the various keywords that i see in my GA. I have seen some of my blogger friends receiving searches out of some unrelated keyword or funny ones. So far i have not seen any in my blog.
Thanks for visiting and commenting.

Lye,
This is a great post. I am a guy that loves to use data to tweak and improve articles and posts. GA is simply a great and powerful 100% free tool for this.
GA is something that many people use..but few use this free tool to it’s full power.

Hi Steve,
There are lots of stats we can explore from GA. It’s a waste not to utilize it as it is just there for the taking. It’s not a tool simply to track numbers but useful for knowing how our blog can be improve.
Thanks for dropping by Steve. Much appreciated.

Hi Naser,
I don’t really have much success in search engines. I always insert keywords in the title and meta tag. The base line to have a quality content and if people link a lot, your ranking will go up.
John, Those are really nice tips. Although I have used Google Analytics for while, I have never really used it as a source to identifying the underlying problems with the website and improving it. This post has promoted me to spend more time with Google Analytics!

Google Analytics is a complex tool, it takes a lot of time to fully understand and benefit from all its functions. But it’s worth it on the long run, and let’s not forget they’re constantly improving on it.
