Ask For Your Guest Post Instead of Waiting For One

Ask for it

There are plenty of ways to attract web traffic to your site. Guest posting is surely one of the most popular ways to increase your blog traffic and attract some inbound links. That’s why many bloggers are using it to promote their site.

I have two guest posts so far. One is 10 powerful techniques to generate viral marketing in YoungPrePro.com, the other is a post collaborated with Michael from Lickshunmewah.com named 7 type of headlines that attract readers. I actually received an email from Michael checking with me whether i am able to contribute a guest post over at his blog and i am too glad to oblige. The post had created a lot of buzz over at his blog but credit to Michael who had done really well in editing and add on to my original post.

He is an expert in writing and i believe he will be able to offer you a service should you require any advice on your writing or editing. Do not hesitate to contact him if you require his services.

Why You Shouldn’t Wait For Your Guest Post Sometimes

Michael ‘s action(his email to me) gave me an idea to write a post on why you shouldn’t wait for your guest post to come to you. Sometimes you need to take initiative and take action to ask for a guest post.

To accept a guest post and guest posting in other’s blog should be a win-win situation. As a blogger, you give your readers exposed to different perspective when you accept a guest post. If you guest post on other blogs, you can get to the front page and attract organic traffic and inbound links to your blog.

Do you always wait for a guest post to reach you? If your blog is extremely popular, probably you don’t require to ask for it as there will be lots of guest post waiting for your review.  Bloggers are more attracted to submit guest post to high traffic blogs that can get them plenty of traffic. What if you are a new blogger or you have a low traffic and you only receive probably one or two guest post per week or even months. It’s simple, just ask for a guest post from a fellow blogger you know and have a good relationship with.

This is what you should do:

  • Drop them an email

Ask your fellow bloggers politely whether they have the time to write a guest post in your blog. Do not simply email every blogger to ask for a guest post. Make sure you know them personally and have a good relationship with. You can establish a friendship by just commenting on their post or simply email them.

  • Not afraid of asking

Don’t be afraid of asking. There is nothing wrong in requesting a guest post. I believe most bloggers would oblige if they could find sometime to guest post on your blogs. So what if you have a low traffic. I am pretty sure his guest post will still attract some new readers. The best thing is if you announce that this blogger is a helpful guy, his reputation can only be enhanced by your announcement.

  • Not afraid of getting rejected

If there is no reply or simply the other bloggers reply he has no time to write a guest post, just thank him for the reply and get on. Try to email another blogger asking for the same thing. I believe ultimately there will be one who answer to your calls.

  • Do some research

Do make sure you don’t just email every blogger you know without making some research on his writing style and niche. It don’t look good on you if you refuse to publish his post after asking for one.

If you have a particular blogger whom you respected and you feel it’s awesome to have a guest post written by him. Establish a friendship beforehand tend to make things smoother. It won’t be easy if he is a A-list blogger, we seldom see A-list bloggers guest posting for other blogs now. So you need to make the judgement. However there should be more pros than cons if you have acquaintance  with your respected bloggers even if there is no guest post from him.

Conclusion

Do not wait for things to happen, you need to make things happen occasionally. I believe you will see the benefits if you take the effort to ask people for something in this case a guest post. Likewise, you need to return some of the good favor to others if you are required and things can only get better for you.

Share Your Thoughts

I love to know what you got to say. Do you ever ask for a guest post from any bloggers. Do you always wait for the guest post to reach your shores? If you have different opinions and anything to add on, please do not hesitate to share with us.

Meanwhile i will appreciate if you retweet the post and share this in any of the social networking site if you find this post helpful. Thanks.

Interesting post about guest blogging. I just have one question about new blogs. When should a blog start looking for guest bloggers?

    Great post!

    Cheers

      Hi David,

      Thanks for visiting and commenting.

I would say it really depends on your traffic. You should give yourself between 3-6 months before you accept a guest post. The reason is most probably not many bloggers will guest post on a fairly new blog. However if there is a lot of interaction and a lively community in your blog, i believe you should be able to attract a guest post even if your blog is new.

      Hope that answer your question.

    Hey Lye

These are great tips about guest posting and how to maximize our results. I think the main fear people have is being rejected, But as writers we have to accept that our work will be rejected. This could be for a number of reasons and not just the quality of our work.

Thanks for sharing and advocating my blog :)

      Hi Michael,

Yes we should keep trying and probably the reason is due to writing style etc.

Don’t mention it bro. You deserved it. Thanks for dropping by and the great support.

Awesome post Lye! I only submit my guest post to bloggers i know and before i submit, i will make sure the post is well written. People do ask if they can guest post on my blog but why i don’t accept it is that i want my voice to reach out to people before i can consider guest posting. Thanks for sharing. Have fun.

    Hi Lye
I enjoyed your guest post at Michael’s site. I have actually asked him to guest post on my site once his lavender patch is growing. He has excellent writing skills and when he said he was planting some lavender I jumped at the chance to ask him.
Won’t be for awhile but I do think having guest posts once I have anestablished blog will bring some fresh insight and interest to my readers.
With asking to guest post at other sites; I haven’t done that yet. Good suggestion and you make the case for it too.

      Hi Patricia,

You are right, Michael has incredible writing skills. I am sure he will bring value to your blog if he guest post over there.

It really depends on your blog. If there is no guest posts coming from others, we need to ask. There is nothing wrong in asking. Glad you find this useful.

    Hi Lye,

I completely agree with you. If you want Guest Articles for your blog then you should go and ask for it. That’s what I am doing for my blog and I have already 40+ guest articles published in my blog.

    That’s right Lye,

I think bloggers should be proactive in seeking guest post. I don’t think you should be afraid to ask others. If you got rejected, then at least you know you’ve tried.

You’re right about establishing your network. I would prefer knowing other bloggers first before asking them for a guest post otherwise it will feel awkward.

I am glad you agree with me. It’s also much easier to have our request accepted if we have good relationship with the other blogger.

Thanks for the great comments. Hope to see you soon.

Great post Lye! Guest blogging is really a great way to get fantastic content. What I do is sometime just ask my friends to write something for me they are interested in :) . If you have friends that are passionate about something they will gladly do this for you hehe.
