I have always heard your posting time plays a part in your post being read the most when you hit that publish button. Do you have a schedule posting time for your blog? This of course is based on your blog having accumulated decent traffic, so you know when you post actually has an effect on your readership when your post goes live. Even you are having a low traffic now, you can choose the posting time targeting your potential audience who you want to attract.
In the early stages of this blog, most of my visitors came from Australia. Slowly as the blog gain more exposure, majority of my traffic source are from the other half of the earth, US. I also discovered a trend, most comments were commented while i was sleeping. Probably my habit of posting is at night, after work. I don’t know what is the time in US, most likely in the morning. There is a huge time difference between Singapore and US. My sleeping time should equivalent to the working time in US.
Before i go ahead any further to share with you my posting time. Below is a screenshot of my top 10 traffic source:
As you can see from above, visitors from United States take up a large percentage of my traffic source. Third to fifth are India, Australia and the UK.
It is unintentional from my part to post at the time before i sleep. Part of the reason is because i have a full time job and i only have some free time to write for this blog at night.
It’s a joy to discover that this is actually the best time for me to publish a blog post. It suits my routine life. My habit of posting is hit the publish button and i will go to sleep straight away. The next day when i am checking my blog, i am surprised to see there are comments in the post waiting for me to respond.
If you have a loyal base of visitors, they will still read your post through feeds and visits. The reason why we want to post at a specific time is to give our post maximum exposure. Usage of Twitter and Facebook are two most popular ways to promote your new post. The time to tweet or share in Facebook is equally important as you will prefer more people to see your tweets and likes, click the link and read your post.
How do I choose my posting time?
- The time when I receive the most comments.
- The time when I receive the most visit.
- The days when I have the most visitors.
Each individual blogs has different stats. You need to look at your own and do some research. I seldom post on Saturday(Singapore time) as this day is the day which i see the least visitors.
The days when i receive the most visitors are working days like Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. From what i noticed, it does make a slight different on traffic depending on your posting time. I wouldn’t emphasize it is necessarily to stick to a specific time for bloggers. It depends on what work best for your blog and your audience.
I understand most blogger have set a specific posting time when they blog. This is what you have plan according to your free time and lifestyle. As your blog grows, you may have to change your schedule to cater visitors for your largest traffic source if you wish.
Do you have a schedule posting time?
Do you think your posting time has any effects on your comments and visits?
Do you actually change your posting time to cater your visitors?
Most Importantly, does it matters to you?

I think you are 100% right. I read a metrics from general blogs that showed 9:30 am EST was the best time to publish English speaking blogs. You get people on the west coast who are getting to work, and people on the east coast that are finishing morning meetings. I think Singapore is exactly 12 hours out of sync with EST so that works out to 9.30 PM.
Day of the week also matters. Monday Wendsday and Thursday being the best and most popular days.
Of course I am not sure HOW big of a difference it all makes, and therefore I regularly, “break” these times, but they are a good goal that you seem to “naturally” fall into
Fri/sat/sunday are definitely slower, all other days (to me at least) seem pretty close, but there may be some small differences.

Hi Steve,
I agree the difference may be small so it depends on whether you want stick to a particular posting time.
So far it has work for me. Most important i will just write and publish according to my lifestyle. i think that’s pretty cool.
Thanks for the comments mate.

I’m with Steve here. I’ve played around with posting times quite a bit and have found 9:30 to be the most optimal. For me, when I post too early, like around 7am eastern, there is a noticeable difference.

I don’t think I have a posting time. I do post on my blog twice a week but just can’t say the day or time! I guess I do publish my post mostly in the afternoon here around 2pm. I only publish when I have things to say, but if I don’t I won’t post anything! What do you think? Thanks for sharing.
Sam,
I think it’s best you don’t post unless you have something of value to say. Keep rocking!

Hi Samuel,
It makes sense not to publish anything if you have nothing to say. But you still can look at your traffic source and try the timings when you blog gather the most visits.
Thanks for taking the time to comment brother.

This gives me something to think about. I usually just post my blog posts when they are finished. I never really tried to test and track specific times. Maybe it’s worth a shot.

Hey Lye,
Thanks for the fantastic article my dude!
Think the best time to publish your articles are Friday- Sunday, because that’s when people are usually off work and able to sit down and do some reading.
I have a specific blogging schedule that I will not break for anything. Even when I became homeless for a little while I did not break my schedule. Instead I only pushed myself to dish out my hard work.
Wish you the best!
God bless,

I think developing a schedule posting time for your blog can be a challenge when you first start blogging, but after a while you kind of become accustomed to posting on a certain at a certain time.
Since most of my traffic comes from the U.S. I always try to schedule my posts around the U.S. time.
At the end of the day I believe it is important to just have a normal schedule and stick to it, and if your blog has content your readers really find interesting they will visit your blog according to your posting schedule. Thanks for sharing Lye, you make some great points here.

Lye, When I first started my blog I was told that the best time to post was 10:00 am CST, so that’s what I’ve been aiming for. Examining my Google Analytics report, it doesn’t seem to matter when I post, but rather the subject matter.
Do you think different target markets have to be factored into the equation and not just the country?
Thanks for the post – great food for thought.
Connie
Twitter: Findmyblogway
Hi Connie,
I agree. If your content or subject is not good, no matter what time you post has no effects at all.
I think it depends on niche. For English speaking blogs, US and Australia are two big markets. The posting time is to gain more exposure. As i said, it is not essential.
Thanks for the comments.
Lye
Lye,
My rule of thumb has always been that the right time to post is when you have something to say. (I know that’s a bit lame, but it has worked well for me.) I’ve never really worried too much about getting the posting time correct.
Twitter: Findmyblogway
Hi Dave,
Great to know that. It depends on your working style and what works well for you. I don’t see the need to change if everything is going your well.
Thanks for the comments.

I think you should publish your post at night so that your readers can read it from the morning. You need to keep in mind before publishing from which country your most numbers of visitors are coming.

Posting time is definitely an important factor, only problem is when that posting time falls at 3AM and you’d have to get up and publish the article.
But i’ve heard of some plugins doing just that, schedueling the time you want those articles to be posted. I’m off to do a little research on this matter.

Hmm. I think because my blog is so small still, that there really isn’t a better time where I get the most of anything. Every day is different. Some days I’ll get up to 30 visits, some days 7. For me, that’s a lot. =)
But who knows? I’ll continue to add value, and as I get more of an idea when my visitors are coming (most come from the US and Canada) I’ll be able to adjust accordingly.

Hi Lye great question. This is one of those things that is always debated. So to my answers for you:
* Do you have a schedule posting time?
Yes – 8 AM EST.
Do you think your posting time has any effects on your comments and visits?
Yes – I find that my blog gets the most visits between 8 AM and 12 PM EST, according to Google Analytics.
Do you actually change your posting time to cater your visitors?
Interestingly I’ve always been posting at this time so it seems to work. I have tweets scheduled throughout the day to tweet my posts at different times, so my promotion is relatively continuous.
Most Importantly, does it matters to you?
It matters for me to get readers, subscribers, leads and customers. So in short, yes!
Thanks for a thought invoking post Lye.

Hi Lye
I used to post on Tuesday evenings Perth time which is morning in US. I now post on Wednesday evenings. Haven’t noticed any difference in traffic.
However, when I posted on a Saturday a few weeks ago, did notice traffic was slower but as the week went on it picked up.

This isn’t the first time I’ve read on his topic. I’ve read about trying to time the publishing of posts during the time whenyour readers are just arriving at work.
I don’t so that. I’m like you. I post around my work schedule. Most or the time that’s vey early in the morning before my wife and son are up. I just figure that it’ll work out if my post is already published when people get to work. Or they’ll read it later when they check the Internet next if I missed that mornings traffic rush.

[...] Best Posting Time (via Find My Blog Way) [...]
I use wordpress and am able to schedule posts. Sometimes I schedule for early mornings, sometimes mid-mornings and sometimes after 7 pm–but always between 12-1:30 EST US. Whether you stay at home or work outside the home, this seems to be a pretty good time for most people. Those working are often on a lunch break and those at home typically have some free time while the kids are napping

It is true that to some extent the time that you publish your post really matters. One should always publish when you know that many of your readers or potential readers can access the post.
