Are you taking blogging seriously or are you just having fun with blogging? If you are treating blogging as a serious business, you should know it’s not easy to make it a success. There are a lot of tasks that you need to complete and a lot of work to be done in blogging. First of all you need to select a niche, brainstorm a domain name, get a web host and select a theme. Then you need to do your posting. Is that all?
No definitely not. There is a lot of things that you need to do. You need to update your blog, pay attention to your readers etc. There is also a lot of things you can’t do. You can’t steal content, making personal attacks and have a bad attitude. But there are also nine things you can’t stop doing. What are they?
9 Things You Can’t Stop Doing In Blogging
1. Keep Writing
Yes you need to keep writing to maintain your blog and you need to write your content with good quality. More writing will actually improve your sentence structure and make you a better writer. I remember a post title in Copyblogger named 10 steps to become a better writer. It’s an interesting post which is short but straight to the point. The whole concept is just to write. Feel free to drop by and have a read.
2. Keep Reading
From young my parents had been advising to read more. I listened to them. Just that i like to read everything outside of my school textbooks. Bloggers need to read. More reading will update you the latest news of your niche. It can also help you to get new post ideas for your next post. Do not restrict yourself to read blogs of your niche. Try to read other niche blogs, you will probably able to think outside of the box. Read up this post on How Reading Can Help You Become a Successful Blogger.
3. Keep Learning
No bloggers can raise their hands and declare that they know everything. One of the virtues A-List bloggers have is they are humble and they are not afraid to admit they don’t know. It’s absolutely fine to don’t know about something but it’s definitely not right if you do not take an effort to find out the answer. Learning is the only way to keep your knowledge evolving.
4. Keep Interacting
Your blog is read by people. You yourself are reading people’s blogs too. It will be very dull if there is no interaction between people. When people leave comments on your blog, you need to respond. When people send you a question, you need to answer. Make sure you keep your interaction alive within your blog and other blogs.
5. Keep Investing
You are already investing if you have a self hosted blog. You need to purchase a domain name and pay for the web hosting. But that’s not all. During your blogging journey, you will probably need to fork out money to purchase ebooks, courses or even membership sites. Be sure to set aside some budget to purchase anythings that will help you to achieve your blog targets. There are of course freebies that works as well but you can’t rely on freebies all the time.
6. Keep Promoting
Besides writing great content, you need to promote your blog as well. If you do not do any marketing, nobody will know you have written a great post. Make full use of social media and optimize keywords for better search engine traffic. Read up this post How to Build a Solid SEO Foundation for Your Blog by my friend Onibalusi. No matter what, just keep on promoting and make sure you do not scam while promoting.
7. Keep Testing
There are so many strategies and ways to run your blog. Which one is suitable for you? Well, you just have to test it out. By testing, you will know which strategy works. This is especially important if you want to make an income with your blog. There are many ways to monetize but not all is suitable for you. By trial and error, you will understand which of the one gives you the best result.
8. Keep Earning
This is by far the most hardest to achieve. One aim of bloggers is to earn an income and ultimately able to live a comfortable internet lifestyle. But before you are able to do that, you need to keep earning. Not only that, you need to be earning consistently. You can’t be earning few thousand dollars in this month and only few hundred in another month.
9. Keep Blogging
Yes you need to keep on blogging. Turn every ideas of yours into a blog. Keep on repeating 1-8 to turn every of your blog into success. Remember blogging is our passion, we need to keep on blogging as long as we can. Don’t even think of stopping if you can.

Awesome post Lye,
This post is so true and any blogger who stops doing any (or all) of the above is signing the death warrant of his/blog.
There is no point writing without promoting.
Thanks a lot for the great post,

Hi Oni,
Glad you resonate with me. You are right about promoting. It’s actually much more difficult to promote than writing.
Thanks for your comments Oni.
You make some very good points here Lye. I see you up late just as I am working on your post and your blog to get success.
You are so right; we have to keep going and that is what I intend to do. It is so important to interact with other bloggers as it can be isolating just blogging away and nobody to talk things over with. Other bloggers understand as they are going through the same thing.
Even when success comes, we still need to keep going and I am so glad to have found others to encourage and help me along the way.

I like the point you bring up about ‘Keep Learning’. Yea. No bloggers can possibly say they know everything, and many pro-bloggers invest money on their education too:)

I’m really starting to like your posts, Lye. Besides running a blog you make your readers focus on personal development as well and this makes your writing style very unique. Someone rightly quoted that that education is a learning process from cradle to grave. No one can suppress us from thinking and learning, no one can suppress a writer from writing. Good thoughts!
