4 Simple Steps to Build a Successful Blog

Successful Blog

This won’t be a long post since this is a weekend and everyone should enjoy some quality family time. I know we are always facing blogging challenges time to time. The questions is are we making things too complicated sometimes.

We know traffic is our lifeblood if we are to build a successful blog. You go on visiting blogs everyday hoping to find the secret success formula to help your blog grow. I am sorry to tell you there are no secret formulas. You just have to follow this 4 simple steps and you will be on way to build a successful blog.

Step 1: Know your niche well

There is a reason for people to advice you to follow your passion when you start a blog. You need to know the topic you are blogging at your fingertips. There are a few reasons for this.

- You won’t be running out of things to say

If you understand your niche well, there is a lot of topics you can tackle in your blog. You won’t be running out of things to say and no writers block.

- You can easily become the authority

People who are reading your post will know whether you understand the niche well. “Fake it until you made it” can’t bring you anywhere. An authority blogger understand his topics well and translate his knowledge to people in his blog post.

Step 2: Target people’s problems in your niche

Every niche has their own set of problems face by visitors. People search the internet to solve their problems. Your job is to understand what is that and provide the solutions in your post. First you must understand:

- What is the biggest problem people face in your niche?

If you know your niche well, you should have an answer to this. Just imagine what is the most immediate problem people face in your niche. If you don’t know, make sure you do some research.

- Provide solution to solve people’s problem

Lets use dog training as an example. For dog owners, their most immediate problem is to teach their dog commands. Focus your post on command training and you know you will have a bunch of loyal readers waiting to learn from you.

Step 3: Focus on quality content

As what Corbett Barr says, you need to write epic shit if you want to build a raving audience. This is the lifeblood of a blog. That’s the only foundation you should build.

- Your content must be informational and useful

Write content that people find hard to resist. This content is timeless and people can refer it anytime they find them. It must be useful, informational and help people to solve problems. In other words, your content must provide value. That’s it. No two ways about it.

Step 4: Promote the hell out of your post

You epic shit will not be known to others if you do not promote it. Marketing is part of your routine and it’s as important as writing quality content day in day out.

- Make use of social networking sites

Build a large following in social media like Twitter and Facebook. Tweet your post and share it in your Facebook account.

- Make use of blog voting sites

There are several sites such as Blokube, Bizsugar, Bloginteract and SERPd. Submit your post to these sites. I have written a post on how to maximize your benefits on Blokube.

- Common ways like commenting

Commenting is one of the easiest and best way to promote your latest post. Just make sure you do not spam.

Conclusion

I promise it won’t be a long post but it still ends around 600+ words. Of course if you to narrow down, there are lots of strategies that you have to work on. Sometimes you don’t have to complicate things. Simplify your blogging aims into these 4 steps and work hard on it. You should on your way there. Here’s to your success.

Very great and valid tips that you have provided in your article.

Blogging in a niche that you know and have knowledge about is the best 1st step that you can take in building a successful blog. This is a mistake that is often made by new bloggers. Its best to stick to the evil that you know :D

Another thing that you mentioned that can lead to success is promotion, because this is the best way of getting your own traffic.

      Hi Kharim,

Great to see you. To “know our niche well” can be a very important aspect for new bloggers. Though we can learn while we blog but it will take a longer time to blog our way through.

Definitely any great content requires promotion whether by ourselves or by others.

      Thanks for visiting and commenting.

      Hi Rick,

Maybe i am reading too many blogging tips. So i have to trim it down. It’s normal for new blogger to start searching for blogging tips. The truth is you just have to know your aim and take action. That’s it.

      Thanks for the comments.

One other thing that I would add is to develop a system so you can maximize your usage of content. Find out how to create content that interlinks with others before you create a bunch so that you aren’t trying to puzzle piece them together at a later time.

This lets you progress people in a logical way but also structures your content so it can continue to drive quality content.

Great tips Lye, keep it up :)

Murray: Great advice buddy! When I first started blogging I didn’t think about interlink with my site, and it was a pain to try and do some afterwards. It’s much easier to develop a system for yourself and stick to it. You can then tweak it as you go if needed.

Would you agree that to get the most out of your interlinking you have to do some linking out to other blogs?

Interlinking out is great especially when you pass people to very valuable resources. I generally reserve my interlinking to posts that literally wow me; I also have a mental notepad of certain posts that I love that I reference when need be because they are just too good not to pass people to.

When you link out you catch the attention to fellow bloggers; great way to get them over to your blog :)

      Hi Murray,

You have touched on a very important point which i like. It’s common for us not to do any research and planning before we roll out our blog post, so it seems very disorganized. That’s a very good point you have brought up.

      Thanks for the awesome addition.

Hey Lye: It’s been a long awhile since I have been around your community, but I’m happy to be back! ( : These are awesome tips for building a successful blog. I would have to add Guest writing as another step. Guest writing was helping my blog tremendously, but I started slacking off and saw the negative effects. That’s why it’s always best to diversify your traffic methods.

Look forward to some to checking out some more of your post. I liked this one and found value, so I retweeted to my followers. Hope they find value in reading your work also!

Nice to hear from you again. How are you doing?

Guest writing is a good way for more exposure of ourselves. The idea is to consistently doing it and the result will be great.

Thanks for the RT and comments, William.

    Hi, Lye,
I appreciate your tips, especially the ones when you are noticing that a blogger can’t run out of topic, if he decides to write things from his niche, which is exactly the whole point in my opinion. Lots of people try writing different stuff, but the best choice is to focus on one thing, specialize in it, and so be the best one in it. I also like your advice on promoting the article…without it, there won’t be much readers, and neither traffic.

Determining what concerns people is one of the things I need to know so that I can provide them in my niche. I could get them interested in reading my blog, by promising and providing solutions to the problems I have raised. Been reading a lot of tips about how to produce a successful blog and the tips you have given are really new and interesting to me. Thank you Lye..

Building a blog is not an easy task especially in the long run. Choosing a niche that you are both familiar and comfortable with is very necessary. Some bloggers write about things they do not know so much about and hence their blogs lack quality content. The steps you have given here are all very essential for the success of any blog.
