Finding People To Work With If You Want To Start Your First Blog

Blog

There are choices of hosted blogging platform like Blogger and WordPress.com and self hosted paid version such as WordPress.org. Using a hosted blogging platform to blog is easier compare to a self hosted blog. As long as you know how to write, you can put your blog up within 5-10 mins and have written your first post.

There is a learning curve if you decide you want to have full control and opt for a self hosted blog. Though there are many platforms but WordPress is the top choice for most bloggers. It’s free and there are a lot of plugins available. If you are one who is not computer geek, you will feel overwhelmed by the steps of owning a self hosted blog.

I started my first blog using Blogger platform. My first blog has nothing to do with any blogging topics but i am very interested in blogs writing about blogging tips. I came to know about WordPress and started to migrate my first blog from Blogger to WordPress. A lot of technical steps was sitting in front of me which i need to overcome.

I had to register my domain name with a registra and set it up with a premium web host. I need to get my domain name hooked up to my web host. I had to look for a theme. I need to know what plugins to use etc. You bet i spent quite a long time to figure all this out. For me, it seems much easier as i am a more seasoned blogger now. For those who want to start a self hosted blog but is procrastinating in taking action as you are scared of the technical difficulties, fear no more. You can work with experienced blogger to help you get a head start. Not me though :)

      Hi Richard,

Exactly, we have the same route Richard. We have to figure it ourselves on a self-hosted platform. It’s fun actually. For people who are overwhelmed by it, should not hesitate to seek for the help of experts.

      Thanks for the comments.

Usually when i start something like this from scratch i google for forums and blend in the community. Be friendly for 2 weeks and people will be more likely to help without talking about money.
Unfortunately this takes up a lot of time, so in some cases it’s better to just invest some money.

      Hi Antonia,

For people who are overwhelmed by the amount of work they need to do, outsourcing seems to be a great way to get started provided you have the budget.

      Appreciate the comments.

There’s also the part where you need a website, just once. What’s the point in learning to program for that? It’s not like you learn to fix cars just because yours broke once.

Working with someone like Adam is a good idea for some people. However, i always felt it’s best to learn these things by yourself, without external extensive help. I found out that by searching for solutions to my problems i actually learn more, i assimilate more information that may or may not be of any use at that moment, but it’ll definitely be of use somewhere in the future, and that’s going to save a lot of time.

      Hi Martin,

I agree if we have the desire to learn, it would be more satisfying if we find a solution.

However, there are people who procrastinate because of technical fear, they should seek for help.

      Thanks for the comments.

Never did this when i first started, but if i did, i probably would have checked the top blogs and send some emails to their owners to see if they’re interested in a collaboration. I’m aware most would turn down someone new to the business, but you never know who you may run into.

      Hi Amit,

You are right. I believe most will turn down because they don’t know you. To collaborate with other blogger, you need to establish a great relationship with the other party.

      Thanks for the comments.

Finding a good hosting site is very important for new bloggers. It can help you organize yourself so long as you have good topics to write on. One should look around and find a hosting site which suits his or her needs before making a decision on which one to chose.
