It’s Never Too Difficult For Me To Follow You Back On Twitter

Follow Me

It’s never too difficult for me to follow you back on Twitter. Yes that’s right. My interest is pretty wide. Though i am in the blogging niche but i still follow people who has nothing to do with blogging niche. I don’t use any Twitter tools and i am relying solely on manual when i retweet or chat with my fellow bloggers. You bet i check out every follower as you take an effort to follow me, i ought to check you out. Sad to say, i don’t follow every single follower who drops me a follow. I have some expectations on who to follow. It’s not difficult actually.

I won’t follow back if you fall into any of the categories below.

No profile picture and introduction – When you create a twitter account, the first thing it ask you to do is to upload a picture of you and write some bio. This is the most basic thing to do. If you don’t have a profile picture and some intro text, i will just treat you as a spammer. I do not know what you do or simply what’s your interest. If you expect me to find out myself in your tweets, sorry i don’t have any interest.

You tweet about personal things – If you follow me, you should know what my blog is all about. I don’t know you and i have no interest in knowing what you do or what you eat. I rather concentrate on what i eat or where i am bringing my wife for a movie.

Your link lead to sales pages – I don’t even know what products you are selling and you want to sell me something. Maybe you think your products maybe useful to my niche but i don’t think i can trust you. We have no interaction and yet you want to sell me something. Maybe next time.

Your tweeter language is foreign to me – I use English to communicate and you can’t blame me for not following you back if you tweet in different language. I don’t understand what you are tweeting. You can’t expect me to follow you, right?

Your Blog sucks – Yes, your blog sucks. I don’t feel like follow you when i visited your blog. It could be your design or writing. It could be your last post is posted few months back. I just don’t feel like visiting once again.

You haven’t been tweeting since few months back – If your last tweet is few months back, i wonder if there is any reason for me to follow you back. Simple as that.

No plain interest – I am not interested in your field of interest. Your blog/website may be about loans, Tamil songs or even company website. My interest is wide but not so wide to cover everything under the sun. I can’t be following you if i am not interested else i have to follow millions of twitter users.

I understand it doesn’t feel good if people doesn’t follow you back. That’s ok. It’s nothing personal actually. All twitter users have experience of people not following back. No big deal about it. Most important is to have an active interaction within your tweets and follow people that you genuinely want to follow because you are interested of what he/she is saying.

  • What criteria do you look for to determine who you want to follow?
  • Which of the above resonate most with you?
  • Do you have other reason to share?

I know I follow way more people than I should, but you have some good tips here. I plan on cutting down some of my followers. Probably my first criteria will be to stop following the people who just are not active on twitter.

The personal tweeting thing doesn’t bother me so much, but I think it depends on how personal they are getting. I definitely don’t want all the minutia.

      Hi Richard,

If he/she is a blogger i know, i won’t be removing if he/she never tweet for a long time. Else i will unfollow who are just not tweeting and disappearing for good.

It’s sometimes necessary to clean up on the accounts as you know we simply can’t follow the tweets if we follow too many people.

      Thanks for the comments.

    Hi Lye

I check the people out who follow me and if they look like spammers I block them. I am not in the numbers game and would rather grow my followers organically.

And I follow people whose blogs I visit and who write about things that interest me usually. Like to encourage newbies so may follow them for awhile and see how they grow their blog.

Like you, don’t want to follow people who aren’t active on their blog or who don’t contribute on Twitter either.

And I check my list regularly. So I don’t have people there who shouldn’t be!

    Hey Lye,

I’m very happy I dropped by as I love reading things about Twitter. That is my favorite network and really the only one I’m constantly on. The biggest thing to make me not follow you would be no profile picture.

You should always start with personalizing your profile on any network.

My blog build my followers quite nicely. I love having a blog that can build my following on auto-pilot. You can too, but it just takes good quality hard work. When you promote your best work people will share it on social networks for you! ( :

Then all you have to do is work on filling up your blog with awesome content. ( :

Glad to be back around the scenes Lye!

    God bless,

      Hi William,

No profile picture definitely turns people off.

Building a following who like what we are writing certainly helps in sharing and retweeting our post. That should be the case when you follow people.

Writing awesome content in our blog should be everything no matter what niches we are in.

      Thanks for the added points.

Really? There are people out there who still don’t even have a profile picture up there? How difficult is it, really? It boggles the mind. =)

You’re really nice about following back; I’m way more picky, but I find it’s more out of self-preservation than anything else. I follow a few of my friends, but other than that, the people I follow are there because they have something to do with my niche and/or because I care about what they’re saying.

I don’t have a lot of time to look at my Twitter stream, so when I do, I want to read things that I care about reading! It just saves sanity in the long run.

You are doing what is best for you. Just imagine if you follow few thousand people, i actually don’t think you can follow up with the tweets.

I must say indeed a very nice compilation of the mentality of people where they decide whom to follow and whom not to. Its just human behaviour and you need to craft your blog better, plus getting in mind the fact that you cannot impress everyone.

      Hi Adam,

These are some criteria that i have set for myself on who to follow. Basically each individual person has different expectation. If we take an effort to impress, people tend to follow back.

      Thanks for the comments.

Exactly! Everyone has got his own criteria when it comes to following and retweeting, and you should do it for only those people who you think deserve it.

If someone has been generous enough to follow you, and meet all the criteria that you have set for following others, then what at all is stopping you from following them. Being social is always advantageous in context of online business.
