How to Gain Maximum Exposure For Your Blog

Do you write pretty well? Do you think your post is crap? No, i heard you. Then why are you seeing low traffic in your blog? Have you ever wondered what is the reason your blog is not doing as well as you wish? You are looking at other blogs flooding with traffic and comments with envy. You tend to do a comparison and think your content is as good as theirs but why the difference. The REASON is because you are NOT maximizing your blog exposure.

Content is always king but without promoting and networking with your readers and other bloggers, you can’t go far. You need to bring your blog name and brand to as many people as possible.

Attracting traffic is an ever-staying challenge for any blogger of any niche. You might have the most beautiful blog design and most helpful post but nobody knows about your blog if you don’t do anything to promote them. You need to remember your blog certainly don’t suck, it’s just that nobody know about its existence.

Here are some ways you should be doing to gain maximum blog exposure for your blog.

1. Commenting

The most basic task of promoting yourself and your blog. Almost every new newbie start out by using commenting in other blog to announce your arrival to the blogosphere. It is a good way to get started. As time goes by and your blogging experience grows, commenting should be seen as part of your relationship building instead of traffic building. The benefits of building a good relationship is even greater than just having a backlink back to your blog.

One important note is to use your real name and get a Gravatar in order not to be seen as spam. I keet repeating about this because i can’t stress how important this is.

2. Linking to other post and blogs

This is another common practice by bloggers. My 50 great blogs post is the most popular post as not only it caught the attention of other bloggers but they retweeted and share it on Facebook after seeing this post. As a result, i am able to gain a 10% increase to my traffic.

This is an effective strategy but do not overuse it. Only link to post and content you find relevant and useful. No point linking for the sake of linking.

3. Leverage social media sources

Facebook, Twitter and the recent addition of Google plus are widely used by bloggers and non-bloggers. Alongside Stumbleupon, Linkedin and other social bookmarking sites, there is a variety of social media sources you can use to promote your post after you published it.

Some of you may not be seeing the results you desire. This is because social media sites are not as easy as you have thought. Just because you promote on these sites doesn’t mean a flux of traffic will follow after. The key lies in “Social”. Are you active in social media sites? Pat Flynn from SmartPassiveIncome has written a good post on 10 Creative Ways to “Level Up” Your Presence On Facebook. I thought this is a great lesson and it can apply to other social media like Twitter and Google Plus with a little tweaking.

4. Leverage niche blogmarking sites

Niche blogmarking sites are getting more popular nowadays. Whenever you publish a post, submit to these niche blogmarking sites and people will vote your post if they like it. The more votes you get means you will get to the front page and gain more exposure to existing members. In my blogging niche, there is Blokube, BizSugar, BlogEngage, BlogInteract and SERPd.

I believe other niche have their own niche blogmarking sites. This is one you need to take advantage of as you are targeting the same audience. Check out this post to understand how you should maximize niche blogmarking benefits.

5. Guest blogging

Yes, a strategy that is very common now. Look at Onibalusi from YoungPrePro, guest posting has brought him huge traffic and writing jobs which see him earning $5000 in a month. It’s much harder to stand out from guest posting than ever because a lot of bloggers are utilizing it. A glimpse of how you can make guest posting a success, lets take a look at the man of the moment now. I am talking about Danny Iny from FirePole Marketing.

When i visited ThinkTraffic on November 29, i saw Danny’s post. When i visited Copyblogger on the same day, again Danny’s post popped up. When i visited Ana’s TrafficGenerationCafe, once again it is Danny who welcome us. 3 awesome post in 3 big blogs in a day, Danny simply blew me off. This is 200% exposure he will be getting and a perfect example of enjoying the benefits of guest posting.

6. Give away free report/ebook

Writing a report/ebook and give it away for free is not just for the benefit of building a large email list. You need to put in your best effort to roll out something that is helpful and has the potential to go viral. Not only people like freebies and they are more willing to share when the report/ebook is valuable. The main aim is to go viral and reach out to people at a maximum.

Include a strong call to action at the end of the report/ebook definitely helps toward viral. You can call for people to subscribe, tweet or share using any social media sites.

7. Sponsor a contest

There are a few blogging contest going on and they give out prizes that are donated by other bloggers. It can be in the form of prizes or cash. You can gain exposure by sponsoring the contest. As a sponsor, you will get a link from the organizer. If the blog has a huge traffic, immediately your blog will be known by its readers and start gaining huge exposure. This is a good way for a small blog to make a difference.

8. Content Syndication

Syndication your content to other sites is another way for your blog to gain exposure. Sites like Alltop is one popular choice and one i visit often. It pull the feeds from submitted blogs and display the five most recent headlines from a specific topic. The topic is ranged from A to Z and there are tons of topics which will interest you. Findmyblogway can be found under the “Blogging” category. A catchy headline is a must as you will be vying eyeballs with all the big blogs found inside.

9. Forming a blogging group

Invite few of your blogging buddies and form a blogging group. Guest post for each other and promote each other’s post on social media is going to get your blog known to the blogosphere twice as fast. Before you go ahead and form a blogging group, make sure you are committed to perform all the task that is required. It doesn’t reflect well on you if you initiate a blogging group and fail to comply any of the require duties.

10. Order a blog critique

Putting your blog on the front line and gets critique by bigger and established bloggers has its fair share of positive and negatives. First of all, you need to be very sure your blog is ready. Don’t think you pay for it and the authority blogger need to give a glowing review on your blog.

Chris Garrett is one authority blogger who provide critique service. Whenever he does a critique on a blog, he always share it on his post. Whether the critique is positive or negative, it will surely arouse interest in his readers to pay a visit to your blog. Always measure the pro and cons, keep in mind a blog critique is to address weakness of your blog and help you to make improvements.

11. Turn to audio & video content

For people like me who mainly rely on writing, we can never understand the potential of the huge readership that is waiting for us to explore in audio & video content. ITunes and Youtube are two sources that will increase your traffic if your audio and video content go viral.

It’s not that difficult to start a podcast or shooting a video, the difficulty that is stopping us is how we need to overcome the fear barrier especially for non-native English speakers. Once you cross the hurdle, the potential of your content going viral is enormous.

12. Join forum

Forum marketing is one of the oldest way to promote yourself but it still works. People come to the forum to look for a solution to solve their problems. If you are always the one who provided the answer to people’s problems, you are easily seen as the authority or expert. You provide value within the forum community and people will start talking about how you help them out. You will be easily follow by others when you start a new project in future.

The key is to do it consistently

First of all, to gain maximum exposure for your blog is a long term battle. You need to do it consistently. It doesn’t work when you do it in one month and abandon it in the other month. All these task may be overwhelming. Sometimes you wonder where do you have the time to do this especially when you are holding a full time job and need to take care of your family.

You certainly can’t perform every task everyday. There is no way you can do that. I don’t think any blogger is going to try all the ways i have mentioned above. Focus on what works best for you. Give yourself a week or even a month to do one/two/three of them depends on your time allowed. Some task such as commenting and leverage social media can be done frequently. You got to have patience. Seeing few thousand visitors in your blog is not a common scene. It takes times to gain a maximum exposure for your blog out there.
