Blogging Is All About Giving Selflessly

Give Selflessly

We should have understand by now we have to give selflessly in this blogging world. It’s totally fine to see others achieve success. Why do we have to jealous of others success? Starting from day 1 when you start a blog, you have to start giving.

Valuable and quality content that can help people to solve their problems. We hope to build trust and our brand by consistently providing value in our content. You will actually feel happier when you know you are able to help.

You only have to focus on doing one thing while blogging

Give 100% help and support

Not only to your visitors and readers, but also to other bloggers and your competitors as well. Your competitors in your niche can become your biggest traffic source. Treat them as your friends instead of them competing the same market share as you.

The blogosphere is big enough to allow you and others to share the piece of cake. Even the market is saturated, but you can still find a way through. You just need to keep on giving. What can we do to give selflessly?

Comment

Bloggers love to see comments. A thoughtful comment not only enhance a blogger’s day. The feeling of seeing a comment is tremendous. You know you are not talking to a wall. People are responding. How cool is that! Adding more valuable by giving a well crafted comment not only attract the attention of the blog owner but other bloggers too.

Even you don’t have any additional value on your comments, i believe the blog owner will still appreciate a mention and a thank you message.

A comment such as “Great post” is definitely not welcome as it will be treated as spam. Even if you are looking for some backlinks, you must at least show some sincerity in your comment.

A comment such as:

“Hi Lye,

This is such an helpful post. Thanks a lot for sharing.

I won’t treat it as spam. First of all i am being addressed. Secondly, i certainly don’t see a thank you comment as spam. Approving this type of comment is part of giving too. Even if the commentator’s main purpose is to attract some traffic which i doubt the effectiveness of this comment, i will be glad to help if he think it is good for their blog/site.

Some bloggers have been mentioning a thoughtful comment is compulsory if we want people to take note of our blog. In reality, not everybody can be creative as Patricia, Ryan or even Ingrid in giving thoughtful and valuable comments. A thank you comment may be treated as spam by some blogger. He expect every of his comment to be valuable. Come on, we do not have to be so particular about this.

I recently come across a quote which truly brings out the truth of giving selflessly in commenting:

Leave a thoughtful comment on someone’s blog, not to build your readership but rather to show them how they affected you. (Source from Tiny Buddha)

Share

Sharing is the most important process in blogging. When we see something great, whether it is helpful, humorous, intrigued or engaging, we have the urge to share. Sharing may be the most unknown selfless action that you may have done. There are several ways to share in blogging.

Retweet – Retweet button is the most common you can see in a blog post. I believe every blogger has retweeted once throughout his/her blogging time. When you read an informational post, you feel the need to retweet even if you do not know the blogger.

Facebook Like – This has the same purpose as the retweet button. Twitter and Facebook are the most used social networking site and there is no way we can ignore the viral effect of them.

Post Linking – I love to link post by other bloggers in my post. We mustn’t have the mentality of why am i promoting for others. The benefits are there for you. Bloggers who are mentioned by you will appreciate the favor. They will soon return the favor if you have outstanding content worth mentioning.

Vote - There are few blog bookmarking sites for you to share your post. People get to vote for your post for it to be feature in the first page. Sites worth joining are Blokube, Bizsugar and BlogInteract. I have to add the recently set up WordPress Junkie if you are a WordPress lover. Give your vote selflessly if you know the blogger or love the content.

Purchase

What does your purchase got to do with giving selflessly? A lot of bloggers are into affiliate marketing, meaning they will earn a commission if you purchase through their affiliates links. If you know a blogger well and he has the trust from you, it will be very gracious of you to show your support by purchasing the products you need though their affiliate links.

Contribute to their growth by helping them to earn some revenue. Love them and you will be love.

This is pretty difficult as you have to part with your hard-earned money. Besides buying through peoples affiliate links, another example of giving selflessly is to purchase the products that your blog friend released. This is based on what you really need and the product you purchased is of the highest quality.

Conclusion

You can’t stop giving online whether you are a rookie or an established blogger. Every single blogger has given one of the above at any point of their blogging time. The important point is are you giving selflessly. Are you giving selflessly without thinking about the benefits you will have? You don’t have to, ultimately benefits will fall upon you without you even knowing.

Giving selflessly is a great virtue to have and i know you have too.

What else can we give?

Drop us a comment. We love to hear from you.

Share and Enjoy

I appreciate your kindness if you can share this post making use of the share buttons below or at the side. Alternatively, any retweeting of the post is helpful to my blog growth. Thank you very much for doing so. I look forward to see you soon.

Cheers.

    Hi Lye,

I’m regret of not doing commenting properly. In the earlier days of my blogging, i just commented ‘great post’, ‘nice post’.

These days I’m focusing more on leaving thoughtful comments and social media sites. Patrica & Ingrid are the rockstar when it comes to blog commenting. Btw. you missed Ryan Biddulph, another awesome star who always leave long & thoughtful comments.

I think sharing on social media sites and commenting are the best ways to say support.

I Just voted it on Blokube.com and retweeted.

      Hi Devesh,

How can i forget Ryan Biddulph! He is up there with Patricia and Ingrid. These two are the most common way to give your support.

Thanks for the vote and the retweet.

    Hi Lye

Thanks for those kind words. I like to show appreciation of a post I have read. Especially if I have learnt something.

When I first started out I asked heaps of questions and those blog owners who answered those questions would get my support even today.

You are right that we need to be giving out to others. It comes back in bucket loads, even though we don’t expect it :-)

When I started visiting other people’s blogs and leaving a comment I didn’t know about backlinks or linkluv. I just wanted to add to the conversation, get to know the blog owner and show appreciation of the post.

Now I can truly appreciate the value of commenting and all other forms of social networking.

I do believe after blogging for awhile, it is easy to mostly tell when people are genuine and when it’s just spam comment. I do delete spam and always check new commenters sites to make sure I don’t link to bad neighbourhoods.

      Hi Pat,

Bet you must have a lot of experiences about commenting and social networking after all these days.

People who answer their question will surely get it back. They have your loyalty and support because you know you can always rely on them for some problem solving. That’s the power of giving selflessly.

      Thanks for dropping by.

    Lye,

I agree 110%. I think giving your best, and giving freely is absolutely the way to get ahead with blogging. Both from a actually blogging perspective and the common perspective.

I will admit there are times it is probably fine to get away with a minimal comment as long as you at least address the person and make it clear you actually read the article. But it is so much better for both blogger and for yourself if the comments left are worthy something significantly more than just, “great post”.

It all comes down to karma in a way. When you go out and do for others what you would like them to do for you, it gets reciprocated over time.

    Great post ;)

      Hi Steve,

I do agree a more significant comments will be helpful not only to the blog owner but to the blogger himself too. The fact is not too many are able to do that.

There are always help and support along the way and we just have to keep the cycle going.

      Thank for the comments.

    Hi Lye,

I respect your thinking and feelings but just knowing someone is not enough. If you’re promoting someone’s post first thing to be considered is “whether you like it or not”. If you like it then no issues but your don’t then it’s better not to like/retweet/vote as it going to harm your impression as well among your loyal readers.

      Hi Anu,

Support is essential to each other but definitely we need to endorse the content first. We can’t just blindly sharing the content if we haven’t read it.

That’s a good point. Thanks for your input.

Blogging is all about connecting with people and share your experience and knowledge, yeah I know making money is also the reason. But you can’t make money unless you have quality in your blog. Once you worked hard on the quality then it comes to connecting with people.

My personal view is when someone likes your post then he/she usually share it with other friends as well.

A couple of short thank you comments are ok, problem is when you get 10 comments and 9 of those are like that. One can’t be sure if it’s always spam, but it’s definitely disturbing to see people have nothing to say about the article.

Btw, you have my tweet, pal.

    Hey Lye,

Blogging is all about giving! Whether it’s giving of yourself on your blog or giving to others by commenting and sharing as you mentioned above.

I once heard someone say (and unfortunately, I can’t remember who), that if you want success, more comments, more shares, more anything for that matter, than you have to be willing to do it first.

Put yourself out there and be extremely selfless with how you support others. Make their business YOUR business!

I’ve always believed that what you put out in the world, you will get back ten-fold. Sure it’s time consuming. Sure it can be overwhelming. Sure you have to set priorities in your business.

But you have to ask yourself this – what would I do in return for someone who’s gone above and beyond to support me?

    See how that works? ;-)

    Awesome as usual Lye!

      Hi Michele,

You have set the standard here. It’s a great virtue to give as we always want others to succeed and those who received will be able to reciprocate. This is a two-way traffic.

Bloggers should understand this and i believe we will see more success in the blogosphere.

As always, thanks for taking the time to add your valuable comments and support.

The other day I hear a perfect thought about all of this Lye:

“What if you were to put 40 hours a week into other people’s business rather than your own?”

In a lot of ways, that’s what the blog is. We pour our time into creating content for other people so we’re definitely on the right path since that value can be used in each others businesses.

But then we also have the ability to take it a step further by helping each other get known through sharing online.

Everything is changing with modern business; it’s awesome to see people with a common goal rather than treating each other like competition.

There’s a large enough market out there for all of us; we can work together to make it happen :)

      Hi Murray,

The competition should not be coming from others rather than ourselves. Are we motivated, hardworking and dedicated enough to roll out content that people need? If we can do that, we shouldn’t be too concern about competition.

Thats why we are all willing to share with others and helping others out.

Thanks for taking the time to comment. Appreciate your support.

    Lye,

I couldn’t agree more! As much as we all want to/do make money from our blogs, without providing free content… and valuable content at that… no one will spend money, and no one will even bother visiting our sites.

Bottom-line: make your blog valuable and free, and the potential for making money will come.
