If you’re a web worker who owns a blog or a website of his own, you should also know that optimizing your website so that it ranks high in the search engines, is a must. After all, there is no point of holding a web space if no one can find you online. If you can use some simple and effective search engine optimization (SEO) techniques, you can easily increase the rank of your website or blog in search engines. In other words, SEO is the process that makes your site visible to most visitors by boosting the number of the page on famous search engines like Google, Yahoo and Msn. If you’re new into this web world, read on to learn the basics of search engine optimization.

Understand how search engine optimization works

Before plunging into the field of search engine optimization, you first need to understand what it means. It may sound as a jargon to someone who started off with it. SEO is a very simple process of adopting some techniques with which you can easily achieve a higher rank in the search engines. So, when you perform search engine optimization on a particular website, make sure that when someone types a particular keyword that is relevant to your website, your site comes up within the 1st page in Google or Yahoo.

What is the importance of SEO for your website or blog?

It is a fact universally acknowledged that if you apply the latest on-page optimization techniques, you can boost the traffic to your website, but it is not that only SEO can increase the page rank of your website. You must be well aware that search engine optimization is just the last touch that makes your site more accessible to the visitors who search online. Though it is an essential part of your website, yet there are some more important things that need to well synchronize with SEO in order to enhance the visibility of your blog or website.

What are the essential components of search engine optimization?

Getting good SEO job done to your website is very basic. There are some other components that form an essential part of SEO. Have a look at some of them.

The content of the website: The content of the website is the most important part of your website. What you write about your products and how you demonstrate it, is the most important thing for your website. It is most often said that the content is the king of a website.

The design of the site: Most often you will see that the sites that are successfully ranked in search engines are those that are simply designed. Too much of graphics and animation does not always invite traffic. People rather refer simple sites.

The meta-tags: The meta-tags, descriptions and also the titles used in your website are also very crucial to make your site. The meta-tags should be heavily built with keywords phrases and heavy content.

Therefore, if you’re looking for designing a website of your own, get help of a search engine optimization company to get best results. Check out the basics mentioned above and use it as a guide to boost the page rank of your website.

Good article Neil! I’m totally with you on all of the points you have covered there. Although I was kinda confused with the design part at first, I got your message after reading more carefully. The more image files you have, the harder for the search engines to reach your content. And having quality content is of course a priority. After all that’s what blogging is about – useful information, presented in a compelling way.

Good tips and SEO is indeed an important part of success. Like you said, there is no point of “doing something” if no one knows that you are doing it, or in case of blogging, can not be found.

If I may, this guide is the single source of probably the best SEO tips I have ever encountered. Free of course.

    Hi Neil

Very informative post on a very important topic. Being fairly new to blogging I like to visit blogs and learn. I agree with you about keeping the design simple. Some sites are so overloaded it is difficult to tell where the content is! Also, not helpful for loading and as you point out for SEO. Thanks for sharing Neil. Very relevant and especially for us newbies.

    Great post Neil!

I think it’s safe to assume that static websites are a thing of the past and blog style websites (for any product/service/niche) are the way to go today.

Google and the search engines love sites that release new and updated content (as you may have mentioned) as well as sites that are relevant.

That is why keywords research, paired with valuable content is extremely important. It’s not an easy thing to master but can work wonders for your traffic ranks and search engine positioning if done right. Credibility is also another very important component achieved through blog comments. Google loves this!

    Thanks for sharing Neil!

All bloggers should know SEO basics, for sure. And this post is a great introduction for them. Thanks Neil and Lye for posting it!

You mention that you shouldn’t use too many graphics in your blog. True, but if you DO, be sure to name them something search-engine friendly both in their titles and alt tags.

To tell you the truth guys and gals, I’m extremely disappointed. This is not only an example of non-professionalism, but it is a pile of mistakes based largely on ignorance as to what SEO really is.
I mean, 95% of the info provided by Neil here is so inherently wrong it makes me doubt that he is actually an “SEO Analyst”.
