Three Ways to Make Money From Your Blog’s Content

Make Online money

I’ve worked in blogging and online marketing for years, and it’s never ceased to amaze me how many veteran bloggers are great writers but aren’t great at business. It seems like almost every time I read a blog, I find a few things that they could do better and make more money. Sometimes, I see basic mistakes like blogs not being optimized for search engines, or ads that are irrelevant to the blog’s audience. That’s why I’m sharing a few ways that you can make money off your blog:

Pay per click banner ads

Pay per click banner ads work well on blogs with lots of readers. They are easy to set up and getting the revenue is easy if you use Google AdSense. AdSense is one of the better banner ad solutions out there because the ads people see on AdSense change depending on what they search for on Google. This is important for bloggers seeking to make money off pay per click revenue because people are a lot more likely to click on ads that are based on their search results. Since Google is the dominant search engine, it has a lot more information on most people’s search habits than competitors like Yahoo and Bing so it’s able to provide better targeted ads.

Newsletters

Newsletters are a good way to communicate with your strongest followers since they keep them interested in your site even if they don’t visit it for a while. This reduces readership drain over time and provides you an opportunity to make money off your blog:

Datamining

You could use the newsletter sign-up form to get people’s email addresses and sell those addresses to advertisers, but this is only worth it if you get lots and lots of emails (think a hundred thousand or more) and they’re very targeted. Otherwise, you’ll just lose your readers’ trust and flood their inboxes with spam that you’re not even getting paid for since the spammer already paid you for their information.

Affiliate programs

When you go to a general practitioner for medical care and she refers you to a specialist, the she usually gets a cut off whatever you pay the specialist. This is also common in the law industry; for example, a lawyer specializing in insurance might get a call about family law, and he refers the call to a family law lawyer and gets a flat referral fee or a percentage of whatever the family lawyer makes.

Online affiliate marketing works in almost exactly the same way: People who sell things (confusingly called both “merchants” and “advertisers” in the affiliate marketing industry) will pay site owners to direct people to their sites. When those people sign up for a trial, register their information, or buy a product, the website owner who directed them gets a cut or a flat amount. Some affiliate programs are for subscriptions and the website owner gets a cut of each monthly subscription payment. Other subscription programs only pay an amount based off the first month’s subscription, but this amount sometimes exceeds the first month’s subscription.

I was monetizing my blog’s content with contextual adverts. I think this is the best for my blog. Email Marketing seems a lot work to do and so is data mining. Affiliate programs doesn’t work on my niche blog so contextual advertising is the best choice.

I have stopped monetizing my blog because i do not feel my advertisers do not get the expected ROI. It is unfair to just extract the money from them just for some extra bucks per month

I guess that the veteran bloggers don’t really care that much about the profit as much as they care about being what they are.

On the other hand, perhaps they just got lazy and fell off the tracks when it comes to business.

There are several ways to set up a blog online. You could use WordPress, Blogger, or another free site that hosts your blog for you; or alternatively you can set up your own blog under your own domain name.If you want to make serious money from blogging, you must have complete control over your blog – and that’s something the free blogging accounts won’t give you.

Hi Murray, a some great tips here.

Datamining I think is a bit risky, although mainly for the people who end up buying the list – generally I find people aren’t that welcome to unsolicited emails from unknown parties – instead of selling the lists it may be better selling solo ads in your newsletters, a lot of marketers love to spend money on solo ads because it results in highly targeted visitors, which makes solo ads fairly easy to sell once you get the word around and get yourself listed on the solo ad sites that are dotted around.

    2. Newsletter is also effective yet you have to created a very good letter for you to convinced the recipient!

Over all, very nice and informative post! Thanks!

I like adsense the best, but have no where near enough readers to make it pay off. It took me years just to get my first $100 check. Lately, I’m working more with an affiliate program I hope will earn something without having to wait years.
