5 Post Ideas to Help You Generate More Comments/Increase its Popularity

Most Comment

I noticed a trend recently. One of my old post “Top 10 Popular types of Posts that People Like to Read” has climbed to page 1 of Google for the keywords “Most popular type of posts”, therefore this post has been attracting more visitors from search engines.

People are always looking ways to help them write a post that is popular or able to generate more comments. I like to expand on that post and share with you 5 post ideas that can help you to generate more comments/increase its popularity.

First of all you need to ask yourself few questions:

Are you having trouble in attracting comments?

Do you know what posts your visitors like to read?

Do you have an interactive blogging community?

If your answers are no to the above questions, then you need to work your way up to build your own community/inner circle. Commenting, emails, social media and networking are useful to you. Make full use of them.

You can also think of some post ideas that can help you to generate more comments. Below are 5 of them which i think is the best:

1. Write topics that generate high interest

No matter what niche you are in, there are bound to have some topics that can arouse a high interest from your visitors. Take “Make Money” “Blogging” niche as an example, make money and increasing traffic topics normally can attract more comments.

Lets take a look at DailyBlogTips. It’s most popular post is:

28 Ways to Make Money With Your Website

It generates 494 comments to date. But we can’t compare ourselves to dailyblogtips as it has a large readership. If your aim is to generate 10-20 comments(excluding your comments), honestly it is not as difficult as you think. You need to know what topics in your niche can attract the most interest and start writing them.

2. Posts that guarantee results

If you have some killer secrets that can guarantee results is another type of post which can become a popular post for you. Some examples are:

8 proven ways that will bring in $5000/month

6 killer tips to achieve 3000 subscribers

Pretty easy to think of but you have to make sure you have the evidence to back up your claims.

3. Personal experience/story

Personal story and experience are one post idea that can bring your readers close to you. People are looking to learn something out of your post. That doesn’t mean you can’t write on post that is out of your niche. Mistakes you have learnt, product you have used, books you have read or you just have a baby boy, by all means publish it in your blog to share with people your happiness and sorrow.

Your loyal visitors will be glad to know you better. Take a look at this post by Onibalusi when he turned 17:

The 16 Year Old Blogger

He wrote this post sharing his blogging since he started his blog at 16. His readers were happy for him and it had a total of 64 comments.

4. Collaboration post of views from different bloggers

As you know i started “Inspirational Bloggers Tips” asking several bloggers questions for them to share their opinion. It proves to be a big hit as not only visitors can learn from different bloggers, at the same time, bloggers who are involved are also promoting the post attracting traffic from more sources.

The bloggers who participated were commenting and their readers/visitors will also come down to show their support.

By the way, this week will see the return of “Inspirational Bloggers tips” after few weeks break. In this upcoming series, we will be discussing on “Making Money Mindset”. The post will be up this coming Thursday. Be sure to visit us for some awesome advice by the inspirational bloggers who are participating.

5. ?

I will leave this to you. What other post ideas do you think will be popular with visitors? If you are blogging in other niche, feel free to share your thoughts too.

We need to be realistic here. If your blog is only attracting 5o visitors, you can’t expect your post to see 30 over comments. There are people who are just interested in reading while their fingers stay away from the keyboard.  The above post ideas can attract more pageviews and comments but the most important thing is to have an interactive community. You also need to promote heavily as nobody will know what have you just publish.

How many comments does your most popular post attracts?

Does your most popular posts fall into the above category?

If not, please leave a comment and link on your most popular post.

Share and Enjoy

I appreciate your kindness if you can share this post making use of the share buttons below or at the side. Alternatively, any retweeting of the post is helpful to my blog growth. Thank you very much for doing so. I look forward to see you soon. Cheers.

    Hi Lye

Another I would add is to introduce another dimension to your blog. Something that will spark a conversation. I have noticed that a few bloggers have done that.

For example I have done my “Patricia’s Ponderings” and it has elicited lots of conversation and new visitors who felt they could contribute.

Doing interviews always seems to bring people; especially if it is someone well-known.

Asking your readers for suggestions for posts usually brings plenty of comments too.

      Hi Pat,

Some great added points. Interview someone like you who has a wide network certainly helps in increasing the comments. Look at my most commented post, your interview has sparked the most interest.

Ask the reader is another way to generate more comments but we need decent readership here to make it through.

      Thanks for sharing your insight.

    Excellent article Lye,
I would add, mixing your content up a bit. Maybe a video post with text information below. Text post with images, video with images, well you get the picture.
If you keep it interesting then people will return and talk about your site on Facebook, Twitter etc, which is what we are after.

Posts where you share personal info, or reveal a kick butt tip than it will surely get comments. But, remember just because the article is good it doesnt mean people will read it. You always have to go out and network and market.

Nice to meet you. I am a bit surprised too. Just noticed more and more visitors coming from search engine landing on this post.

Blog commenting has many advantages which i think new bloggers must make use of. I attracted my first traffic using this too.

    Excellent points, Lye.
Similar to #, sharing a personal story/experience, would be my favorite – giving the results of case studies I did. For my blog, those posts get the most comments.

I like your #4, collaborating with others, and it’s something I would like to start. Any insider tips on how best to get this going? or what not to do?

    Thanks,

      Hi Peggy,

Nice to meet you. That’s one of my favorite. Just because we have been through, it’s easy to relate using our own voice which people will find it easy to resonate.

Regarding collaboration, it’s better to contact bloggers whom you have been networking with. Drop them an email sounding them out the possibility of a collaboration. I believe most of them would agree. Just make sure you publish what they have written.

      Thanks for commenting and asking.

Excellent post man! My most popular post up to date is Rewire your brain in 2011, I would say that this post could fall into the “Generates high Interest” or even the “post that guarantee results” category. Either way, people really seemed to be intrigued by the idea that you could, in fact, Rewire Your Brain to make your subconscious accept the reality you desire. I have a hard time with the topics that generate high interest…I kinda hate them. They are usually fly-by-night types of things and have no longevity.

Having said that I did write about wikileaks and junk like that.

Anyways, you’re absolutely right, there are certain topics that will generate interest, whenever I find one that I love AND its popular, thats a perfect fit for me.

ANyway…sounds advice..thnx for the post dude.

    Hi Lye,

You make some great points, and I agree with all of them.

I think for number 5, I’d have to go with controversial topics. Talking about stuff that people don’t like to hear or something that is typically known as “taboo” in the blogging world can REALLY get people to comment and spread the word. Of course, depending on how to present it, it can sometimes be bad feedback. But anyway, I still think there is a positive way to reveal controversial topics. It’s something I’m working on a little more these days. :)

    Thanks, great article!
