A Brand New WordPress Plugin – Pro Blog Stats

Screen shot 2011-07-28 at PM 04.10.29

There is a new WordPress plugin on the block. I saw the announcement in Andrew Rondeau’s webuildyourblog. Alongside Joel Williams, the blogtechguy, together they developed a new WordPress plugin call the Pro Blog Stats.

What does it do? It provides a single location to monitor your blog performance and statistics. Do you remember the time when you have to log in Google analytics or Getclicky to learn about your traffic stats? Do you ever dream of monitoring all these different stats below in one place?

  • Google
  • Google Pagerank
  • Google Analytics
  • Twitter
  • Feedburner
  • Yahoo(inlinks)
  • Digg
  • Quancast
  • Yahoo
  • Facebook
  • DMOZ
  • PRWeb
  • Compete
  • Alexa
  • Bing
  • Clicky
  • StumbleUpon
  • Klout
  • PostRank
  • WordPress Stats

Well, the time of logging into different accounts to check your stats has gone. This is what this plugin is capable of. By installing this plugin, you can see all the stats right at your WordPress dashboard.

Alright here comes the most important question.

Is it free?

Yes there is a free version for this plugin. There are different pricing and plans for your choice. Take a look at the screenshot below.

There are 4 type of plans to take up based on your budgets. If you are on a tight budget, you can choose the free option. Do take note the free version covers only the basic. It does not generate report on some of the stats mentioned above.

You can easily install this plugin from WordPress directory. The plugin is not ready to be used when you activate it. You need to sign up at the plugin home site to get a API Key.

Once you have activated your plugin, go to the set-up page and key in your API key. Click Save and you are all ready to go. At the set-up page, there are few information you will see.

- Your account information

How many reports you can generate every month depends on whether you are using the free/paid version. 15 It’s 5 reports per month should be more than sufficient for your normal usage.

- Set up services

This is the place where you set up the various services such as Feedburner, Twitter and Facebook. Some of them is only available when you go for the paid plan.

- Google Analytics

Click the button beside the box to grant access to your Google Analytics account and the plugin will pull the traffic stats to your WordPress dashboard.

Note: Each individual settings has its own save button. Remember to save your setting before you proceed to the next one.

Once everything is done, you can go to the report page which you can choose the date to generate the report of your various stats.

The starting date is the date when you install this plugin. I have verify with Andrew on this. Any data before that will not be seen. As you can see, i install this plugin yesterday and i will show you an example of how the report is like.

Besides that, there is a pie chart which shows the numbers of your traffic sources. You can also see which is your top search keyword, top visited content and your top referrals.

There are some other interesting stats of your blog you may want to know. Your total number of post and comments you have. The comments may contain only your readers comments as i have a total of 3000 plus comments now which is varied from the number shown above. You can also know the total number of words you have written. It’s pretty amazing to see i have written 132,646 words to date. There is also an option for you to export all these data to excel sheet which you can refer anytime you need.

- Would this plugin slow your blog down?

You may have some concern on pulling in such a heavy data will slow your blog down. According to Andrew and Joel, this plugin will not slow your blog down as all the “heavy lifting” is done on their servers.

My Thoughts

Even though the free option does not include Getclicky, Klout, Postrank, Alexa and a few others but it covers pretty well with search engine stats, analytics stats, social media stats, Google page indexed, Quancast, PRWeb, Dmoz, Yahoo inlinks and page indexed. To be able to monitor all these statistics without leaving your WordPress dashboard is a breeze. It saves you the time and hassle to log in individual accounts to track your traffic.

By accessing all these stats quick and easy, you will save a lot of time and focus on looking what is happening on your blog. Is Google indexing your page? What keywords do people search to land on your blog? Just as the tagline tells, monitoring the right statistics can make or break your blog success.

Give this plugin a try and you will love it. If you wish to know more, you can visit the plugin homepage or the FAQ page for a better understanding.

Your Kindness to Share Means a Lot to Me

I appreciate your kindness if you can share this post making use of the share buttons on top, below or at the side. Alternatively, any retweeting of the post is helpful to my blog growth. Thank you very much for doing so. I look forward to see you soon.

Cheers.

Hi Lye, this plugin looks very good and complete. I don’t like monthly fees, but if this plugin is very useful, I can consider the monthly fee :) . Thanks.

Wow! This does seem like a very cool plugin. I would definitely give it a spin – the free version. But I am not sure if I would be willing to pay a monthly fee for it. The GA/statcounter work well for me with my current sites.

      Hi Amanda,

If we don’t have the additional stats, i don’t see why we should go for the paid version. There is value on the free version as well.

      Thanks for dropping by.

I like the free version, it’s not wise to pay for something when you still don’t know how it works. Since it only allows one website, i might be willing to upgrade after a few days test.
In theory this looks solid, we just need to see how it handles the load.

Thanks very much for the review! The free plugin really is to show people how easy the plugin is and how well it works, while still providing useful data. It allows you to test it first and it takes a few days to get enough data to be useful.
Let me know if you have any questions, and thank you again.

I love wordpress as WordPress Backup plugin for example allows you, with a few clicks to configure the backup of your blog. If your blog is very active and records new material all the time, you can request a backup every hour, every day or once a week. thenks for allowing me share this.
