Guest Bloggers – Please Respect Guest Posting Guidelines

Guest Blogging Guidelines

I am going to do some ranting in this post today. I have been blogging in this blog for almost 14 months and seldom you see me getting frustrated over certain things. Even though Findmyblogway is not considered a big blog but i get request from people submitting their guest post to me frequently.

Am I Being Too Nice?

In the past i tried to be as nice as possible accepting guest post when i know you are not a reader of Findmyblogway and just concentrating on getting backlinks to your site. To be frank, i don’t mind as long as your post brings value to my readers. What i emphasize most is when people take their time to leave some comments, i expect you to follow up and respond to the comments in the post.

Guest bloggers, my readers. I consider you as a guest to the home of Findmyblogway. I respect you when you are here and i expect you to be respectful to to others when you are leaving a comment or guest posting here. Anyone who wants to guest post in this blog, please read the guest post guidelines. This is the most basic thing to do when you want to guest post in a blog. Make sure you read the guest post guidelines.

I always make it a habit to remind my guest bloggers to respond to the comments in it when the post is published. Don’t ever say i didn’t remind you. If you fail to comply, this is what i will do:

I will take down your backlinks in the author bio.

If you want me to remove your post, anytime. Drop me a mail and i will do so. I have to make a strong stand because i have my readers to answer. Probably they don’t mean anything to you but they are everything to me. I always respond to the comments inside my post and i am proud to say i have been doing consistently for months and years. If you want to earn some backlinks from this blog, make sure you respect my guest posting guidelines.

Do not have the mentality thinking that you are helping me to gain traffic. Guest posting in other blogs should be win-win for both the blogger and guest blogger. I have a new post and you have your backlinks. If you can’t fulfill basic guidelines that i ask for, please go earn your backlinks in other blogs. I do not want to resort to begging you to reply to the comments as i have already reminded you once. That simply pissed me off.

I don’t have the intention to offend anybody or calling out names. I just want you to know, i own this blog and i have the right to do anything i want.

    Hi, Lye!
I can understand the rules you wrote here and I agree that guest posting is not all about driving traffic for the blogger. It is a situation where both of the sides should be winning, not just one.
Hope that the others fulfill these rules here and that you can have many successful co-operations with more guest bloggers in the future.

      Hi Kristina,

I have to make things so guest bloggers who couldn’t bother to comment can find other blogs to submit their guest post.

      Thanks for the support.

I felt your anger in that post, but I understand why. It is pretty disrespectful to just use someones site (especially if its a site that they spend a lot of time on) as a quick backlink and then never to come back again.

      Hi Lessa,

It’s just frustration. The guidelines is written down there and people can ignore it.

      Thanks for the comments.

Well, it’s understandable that you have the right to rant about the guest bloggers who don’t follow your guidelines. It is indeed much good if they will respond to the comments or questions of the readers of their guest posts.

      Hi Victoria,

I always treat this requirement the most important of all. If you can’t follow it, i need to do something.

      Thanks for the support.

    Hey Lye,

Don’t get too upset over this. Just take down their post and let that be the end of it. At least you know that you will not do business with this type of bloggers anymore?

I am a nice guy too. I gently remind my guest post writers at least twice to reply their comments. Beyond that I will take down the post.

      Hi Jimmy,

What i will do is to take down their links. This is what they are looking for and they have none now.

Thanks for the support and comments.

    Hey Lye,

I know how you feel when it comes to not following rules. You are not the problem. It is them who are the problems. It’s already a known fact that they just do what they do to get what they want. Don’t let this get to you. It’s just how some people play the game.

For someone to be a guest blogger, it is their responsibility to follow the rules. I recent did my first guest blog post and without the blog owner telling me the rules yet, I already started doing what I know is the right thing to do which is to reply to every comment and respect the rules of the blog owner. After all, the way we should look at guest blogging is an opportunity given to us by the owner. So we should be grateful to it and respect it.

      Hi Pj,

That should be the way. My rules aren’t difficult. In fact its common rule across the blogosphere. If you need to submit a guest post, you need to know what to expect. I definitely don’t see this as my problem.I just hope to see less of this.

      Thanks for the comments.

I think that anyone who posts a guest entry should think of it as they would a post on their site. It shouldn’t just be a backlink, it should be seen as a way to show your talents as a writer.

      Hi Paul,

Backlinks shouldn’t be seen as the ultimate reason to guest post. It is by gaining exposure and showcase your brand.

      Thanks for visiting and commenting.

I’m right there with you Lye. For the most most my guest bloggers have responded to the comments on their post. But I did have a few who didn’t at all.

I know that some bloggers will respond to the comments in place of the guest blogger who didn’t bother to.

To me, it just sends a “bad” message if you cannot bother to respond to the commments.

      Hi Justin,

I need to set my rules in case my guest blogger is stepping out of line. If more of these incidents happen, i may have to accept guest post from people i know.

Thanks for the support and comments.

I see a lot of blogs with checkboxes that subscribe you to new post replies even without commenting (unless I’m missing it, I don’t see that box below your comment form). I don’t know if that checkbox came with your CommentLuv or WordPress version; but if you installed that box and made each guest writer check it as a condition of their articles, they’d have no excuse for not being notified of new replies to their own posts.

      Hi Larry,

I understand what you mean. If they have the mentality to stay away after submitting a guest post, there is nothing we can do. We just have to let them know we have rules over here.

      Thanks for visiting and commenting.

I guess maybe they might be a little lazy. If you have certain requirements and you even tell them to read over them and they still don’t comply I see your point in removing their links. It doesn’t matter if you put the rules or requirements right in front of someone with huge text and bold some people still won’t read it or see it. I don’t know why that is.

    Hi Lye,
your guidelines are loud and clear. I also agree that guest posting must be a situation where both of the sides should be gaining.
2-3 mails to the contributor and if he is not follow up the comments in his article remove the full post.
But I disagree if someone (according to this situation) removes just the backlinks in the author’s bio and not the full post. In that case the one side has a fresh new content in his blog, and the other has nothing.

      Hi Nick,

I understand your point. To be frank, a guest post should belong to the site and not the blogger anymore. I am actually waiting for the guest blogger to respond and i will definitely add the links back.

I think they have the mentality of publish and go off. Thanks for sharing your input. I appreciate it.

Well, I think it’s just right to impose a policy on your blog. After all, this is yours and the guest posters or blogger should really comply with your guidelines since they will also benefit from you. :) I think those who respond to those who comment on their post make the reading of the post worthwhile. :D

I totally understand you. If anyone wants to guest post on your blog then they have to follow your rules. If there is a routine you follow then he or she should do the same. It is true that it should be a win win situation.

Hi Lye, I agree with you that a guest blogger should comply to your rules because you are the host and althoough host can be nice the guest has to be equally nice too. It is very shameful that many people who guest post on some ones blog just think it as a backlink point of view but they don’t realize that the host has to answer to his audience.
Well but the world is like that and whenever Ill start guest posting I’ll keep in mind your expectation not only at your website but for other hosts as well.
I agree with you 100% one more time.
