Smart Way of Linking Your Old Content to Keep Your Visitors Longer

SEO Smart Links

One of the main challenges of blogging is to reduce the bounce rate and keep our visitors to stay longer in our blog. What could be the best way than inter-linking your older content in your upcoming post so visitors can click on related articles and increase your pageviews.

If you blog long enough, there is a hassle on keeping track which post you need to link as there are simple too many post lying in your archives. By manually inserting the links to specific keyword is a chore. Luckily for us there is a automated way to interlink our older post by assigning keywords using a plugin called SEO Smart Links. Its main features are:

  • Find keywords in your posts, pages and comments and link them to your other posts, pages, categories and tags
  • Full control with customizable options
  • Ignore list for keywords you do not want to link
  • Improves your site’s interlinking
  • Control external links with custom keywords
  • Add nofollw attribute or open links in new window
  • Caching for speed – make sure you have define(‘ENABLE_CACHE’, true); set in your wp-config.php

You can easily install this plugin from WordPress plugin directory. Once you activate it, you need to fine tune some settings and most importantly enter the important keywords you want to interlink.

SEO Smart Link

There are a number of features you can set here. You can choose whether you want search for keywords to automatically interlink from post, pages and comments. There are also options to link your keywords to post, pages, categories and tags on your blog.

SEO Smart LinksThe option above mainly lets you decide whether you want to interlink on single post or pages. You can also set the links to be embedded to your RSS feeds. If you wish to exclude certain pages and keywords from being interlinked, you can do that by inserting the names and keywords.

SEO Smart Links

Here is the place where you start inserting your desire keywords you want to interlink. You can choose a few if you wish but remember to separate them by comma. In order to avoid too many linked content in a post, i don’t encourage you setting the value to “0″ as there is no limit on the maximum number of links.

Once you made sure all settings are completed, save your settings and you are done. When you write your next post, you just need to insert your keywords and you can see it is interlinked once you publish your post.

This is a really cool plugin you must have as it saves a lot of time if you are manually interlink your old content. If you are looking for ways to drive traffic to your older content, this is a plugin you mustn’t miss.

Nice find. Looks simple enough. A little configuring but nothing too difficult, and if it will save a little internal linking time I am all for it.

    Lye,

This is certainly a nice tool for internal linking. Particularly for those that may forget to do it enough manually.

Internal linking is essential for pulling those deep articles up, decreasing bounce and hopefully keeping people on your site a lot longer.

Thanks for sharing this great tool with others.

The bounce rate is the enemy! Some features may help, but in the end you need to convince the reader that he can gain even more info if he read the entire/or another post. Hm…and how can you do that…

I’ve seen that in some cases pics and interesting titles can help. Anyway you need to present your offer to the user and let him know that you can do so much more.

      Hi Mia,

Good points. If visitors don’t read the post, there is no way they can read all the links inside the post. An attractive headlines and opening definitely helps to attract readers attention.

      Thanks for the comments.

It’s definitely a smart idea to interlink to your old posts. Unfortunately it’s a strategy that many people don’t take advantage of. You want to make the most of your blog content, which means promoting older posts in case people missed it the first time around. This tool certainly makes the process a lot easier.

I have found that one of the best way of smart linking old posts is to do a similar or follow up post once every couple of months.

Have you tried moving your ‘most popular’ posts section closer to the top to see if you get more clicks that way?

      Hi Paul,

That’s a good suggestion. I will move it just below the social connecting button to see whether it improve any clicks.

Thanks for the suggestion and comments.

I’ve seen lots of bloggers who actually follow this strategy. I think it’s the best way to let visitors read previous post. This strategy is absolutely effective especially if each post is very informative and useful to readers.

Looks like a nice alternative to the one use, WP Keyword Link. Might even have more feature, but in the end i guess what makes a plugin better is how useful it is for you.
