If you are going to start a blog, the first thing that you need to do is to choose a topic that you are passionate and blog about it. Once you have decided on the topic, regardless of whatever blogging platform that you choose, you have to think for a domain name for your blog. Thats the first step of taking real action. Do take this seriously if you are going to blog for a long term and establishing an online business in the blogosphere. Get it first and get it right when you start registering for a domain name. There are several tips in selecting a domain name and here are they.
Try to include keywords in the domain
Try to include your keywords in your domain name as it certainly helps on the search ranking. It is easier for people to know what your blog is talking about by just looking at your domain names and some of the examples are Dailyblogtips, bloggingtips, PCMech etc.
Keep it short and simple
Try to keep it short and simple. Do not try to brain storm for a long domain name which makes it difficult for people to remember it. There is a chance that they will forget the domain name if they are to search for your blog. There are of course exceptions such as howtomakemyblog which the blogger teaches his readers how to make a blog. If the objective of your blog is as straightforward as this, you can just implement directly in the domain name.
Try to think of a unique name
Your domain name will involve branding of your website so try to think of a unique name for your website or blog. It has to fulfill the first two criteria while having a unique name and easy for people to remember. Blogussion came to my mind as the owner combined two keywords blog + discussion together.
Try to go for a Dot com priority
Most people will normally search .com as the first extension . The next one will be .net and .org. If your website is catering your local community, you may want to go for a country related domain names. If your website is catered for international audience, try to go for a .com follow by .net and .org.
Ask around for opinions
You may want to check with your friends and family members and see what they got to say. Is the domain name unique and easy to remember? Does it spell out the purpose of the website/blog? Listen to their opinions to decide your choice.
Try not to use your names as the domain name
There are a lot of successful blogs and website that use personal names as their domain names such as Johnchow.com. Unless you have certain reputation or you are a celebrity, you need to work extra hard to establish your brand if you use your personal names as a domain name. Try to avoid it if you can unless you are confident of establishing a successful blog using your name.
Above are some of the main key tips which you need to consider to brainstorm for a domain name. There are numerous registras offering domain name registra services.
