14 Type Of Blog Post to Intrigue Your Visitors

There is no single route in writing a blog post. We should always try to mix different type of blog post to intrigue and maintain the interest of our readers.

I have tried writing various type of post here as well as finding out some others while visiting blogs. I have compiled a list of it based on my observations and you can compare and see how many types you have used in your blog. If there is some that i miss, appreciate you leaving a comment and add to the list.

Type Of Blog Post

1. List Post

I am a fan of list posts. I love reading list post and i like to write about it as you can see in this post. It’s easily scannable and thus much more easier to consume for anyone. Having a comprehensive list post can go viral easily and it also contributes to the ease of writing.

Examples:

2. “How To” Articles

Post that teaches and educates is a good way to share your knowledge with others. Detail steps and instruction help readers how to do something. “How to” articles can be timeless. People are always searching the web on how to do something. They will come across your article if it ranks well on search engines.

Examples:

How To Create A Sticky Blog Post To Glue Your Visitors

How To Increase Your Productivity By Blogging Smarter

3. Interview

So far i have only done one interview. Interview other bloggers not only provide a new perspective to your readers, it also foster the relationship between you and the blogger you interview. You are also tagging on the other party traffic sources as most of the time he/she will post the news in his/her blog.

My only interview so far:

Interview: Patricia Millman, Founder of Best Site On All Things Lavender

4. Ask Your Readers Question

Asking your readers question is a great way to gather feedback. You may like to check with them what improvements your blog should have or any comments on the new design if you are planning to have one etc. It actually encourages involvement and your readers will feel at home when he feels he is contributing to your progress.

Examples:

Comment or Retweet: Which Do You Prefer?

What Do You Like/Don’t Like ABout Findmyblogway?

5. Call to Action

Call to action post is useful when you want your reader to do something. You write a post about it and invite them to take action. I have written two call to action post in this blog. If you want people to do something, don’t be shy to ask for it.

6. Blogs Recommendation

In any niches you are in, most likely you are not the only one blogging in your niche. You are actually competing for the same traffic with other bloggers in your niche but competition is not so defining in blogging. There is a lot of benefits when you do a post and recommend other blogs to your readers. Bloggers whom you recommend will appreciate your generosity and tend to return the favor one day. Your readers will also appreciate the fact that you are recommending blogs that are helpful to them.

7. Traffic/Income Report

Traffic/income report is getting popular. Bloggers like Pat Flynn and Corbett Barr sharing their income and traffic report. I am not earning any penny here in Findmyblogway but i tend to share the traffic that this blog has. Even though some bloggers has been talking about social proof, meaning you should have a huge amount of visitors before you share the stats but it doesn’t bother me at all. My monthly visitors average at 700-800 visitors per month. The traffic is not big i know. My main purpose is to bring out this reality, you have to be extra hardworking and put in more effort if you want huge traffic. I am just too lazy :) . Recently i have stopped posting my traffic report because i have switch to GetClicky on my traffic analytics. I will resume my traffic report in June.

My most recent traffic report:

Findmyblogway Traffic Report For February

8. Compilation Of Views By Other Bloggers

I like to ask other bloggers take on different blogging topics that i can think of. The inspiration bloggers tips series is one that i have posted based on different views given by other bloggers. I stopped it for few months and i will ask again to bring you another inspiration bloggers tips post next week. Please wait for my email, dear friends.

Past inspirational bloggers tips posts:

9. Personal Experiences

Personal experiences can have nothing to do with your niche. You are sharing what you have encounter in your life , be it good or bad ones. Our visitors are our listeners too. Recently i talked about how lose balance between blogging and family. I am touched by the response and the support given to me at that time. Your personal experiences can be a good source for your post ideas.

Here is the post:

Daddy, Can You Please Off Your Computer?

10. Review Post

Writing a product review increase your chances of earning a commission if you are the affiliate. Investment has to be made when you are blogging. Ebooks, courses, premium themes, premium plugin or any other tools. It’s always advisable to write a review based on you have physically use it and have a good understanding on it. Not too much investment from me so far but i have written one product review as you can see below. The other is a review on Blokube the social voting site.

Blokube – 3 Strategies to Maximize Its Benefits

11. Link Post or Weekly Roundup

Weekly roundup or post linking to other bloggers post has the same effect of compilation of views by other bloggers. As a blogger, not only you are writing in your own blog but you are surfing the net and learning from other bloggers as well. Each week you may come across good articles which you feel oblige to share with your readers.

I have not been doing a roundup post as i don’t surf many blogs and have limited post for sharing. I only visit those blogs that i am familiar with though i always take an effort to link some great articles in my post. However, i am going to do a weekly roundup post soon as i believe there are readers who may not be visiting some of the blogs that i read. I should not take things for granted.

12. Rant Post

So far there is nothing for me to rant about. But a constructive rant post is able to promote comments and discussion. I have seen other bloggers rant about products they use or even bloggers they dislike. As long as it is not personal attack on anybody, rant post is a good way to voice out your displeasure and frustration. One blogger who i admire is Brankica who just won the traffic generation contest. She once wrote a post on the worst product she ever used. Just look at the comments in her post. 134 in total. Have you done any rant post yet?

13. Interlink Your Old Post

It’s very common to include some of your old post in your current post to make your blog more sticky. If you have been blogging for a long period, there is a tendency some of your old post will be lying in the dust. Time to time you can find ways to write a post solely introducing some of your post in your archives to your readers especially new ones. This is exactly what i am doing now.

14. Case Studies

As far as this type of post concern, Glen Allsopp is the king of case studies. This is a post based on your testing and evaluation. After the evaluation is done, you are sharing the end results with your readers and your personal thoughts on how to make it better. This is something that this blog is lacking of and i need to work harder on that aspect. What about you? How many case studies have you done before?

I believe i have covered more than enough. Podcast and video are not included as this post is mainly focus on writing.

What else do you think i have missed?

Please leave a comment to add on to the list.

Share and Enjoy

I appreciate your kindness if you can share this post making use of the share buttons below or at the side. Alternatively, any retweeting of the post is helpful to my blog growth. Thank you very much for doing so. I look forward to see you soon.

Cheers.

Y’know, I’ve been noticing the growing popularity of the income/traffic reports that bloggers are posting. For a while, I thought that maybe, if there was money being made on a blog then it was part of the law to report it publicly, but then I saw it was just a thing that was becoming popular. But it makes things very interesting, and adds a level of participation for the reader. That tends to create that sense of ownership that the pro bloggers talk about. If a reader feels that a brand is “theirs” in a way, then they tend to do more to promote and ensure its success.

    Pretty fantastic!

      Hi Delena,

Income reports are popular because people wants to know the secret behind the success. Ultimately this is a big part of reason why they are blogging in the first place.

If people can learn something out of it, it’s a good way of showing your authority too.

      Thanks for the comments.

Getting traffic is easy, but to reduce bounce rates you have got to have catchy appeal and a variety of content for the users to chew on. This article indeed has stressed out the important aspect of content richness and has hierarchially provided the details to achieve that.

    Hi Lye,
That’s a great summarization of the choices available to the blogger. My primary criteria is what fascinates me rather than demand and what creates the most amount of traffic. There are some blog topics (e.g. how to increase blog traffic) that are hot and will generate a high number of viewers but many wouldn’t feel compelled to write about it. Good post! I’m going to save it in case I get smarter in my old age. LOL

    Great post!

What about a post type like debate? This is where you ask a question from two bloggers and they share their own views on the topic. For example Think Traffic hosted this kind of debate with Pat Flynn and Everett Bogue some months ago.

    Hi Lye,
This is a great list of topics. I have found myself writing almost all of these types of posts. I would add that I enjoy writing a story post on occasion. I separate this from the personal experience post as I enjoy getting creative sometimes and I will do a fun fictional story to try and capture the reader’s imagination. These are great fun and sometimes they can be quite popular.

Just when I was thinking what works best. Even though I have a personal blogs, what works best for me is list posts. Maybe people find it easier to read and they get the main points about what the author wants to say. Blog recommendations also work well, people want to know other bloggers and connecting with them forms a sense of community. Totally enjoyed the post. I should try out some of the above mentioned idea!

I hate list post! But i can’t do nothing about it, whenever i see one i have to read it. It’s an evil technique, that’s why i also use it on some of my blogs. The best thing about list posts is that there are never enough of them. You can make a list post every day for two weeks and people will still be coming in to read.

Great advice, I totally agree that anyone can become a great writer. I think the two most important lessons for anyone wanting to improve their writing are:

    1) Read More. I’ve definitely noticed that in my own life, the more I read, the more I get in tune with what good writing is supposed to look like and my writing improves.

    2) Start a Journal. A place to record your non-published thoughts. I have a journal dating back to 2008 with over 225,000 words. But that has easily led to much better results when I go to write an article.
