The internet is rife with the virtues of social media marketing. Of course, the integral part of any digital marketing strategy is a successful blog or a website. Since blogs are necessarily easier to create, they become the first choice for most people. However, to morph into a top class blogger you will need some essential tips. Here these tips are listed in easy to follow steps.

Know your blogging goal:

If you are taking an initiative, you should be clear about what you expect from this step and why you chose the step. This analysis will help you to streamline your blogging approach. This will also help you to measure your blog’s success; this is however, better detailed in the next point. Your blogging goal needs to be specific. If you can streamline your blogging goal, you can target on a precise group of audience. This is always better than floundering with various topics and not getting any significant percentage of traffic for any of them.

Sizing up your blog’s success:

You cannot expect to keep a steady growth rate if you do not know your growth rate. Measuring your blog’s success is imperative. You can employ some major techniques for this. You can keep a track of your subscribers’ rate, comments, and likes on popular posts. Traffic analysis is also a great way to measure your blog’s effectiveness. Social media networking has also eased the way for bloggers to interact with their blog traffic. So, use these tools wisely and adjust your blog according to the data that you collect from these observations.

Taking up guest blogging:

In order to become a top blogger you need to keep an open mind towards learning and networking. In fact, it is essential that you keep a track of the most successful bloggers of your niche and follow their work regularly. This way you can keep a finger on the pulse of your niche and always be up to date with the hot topics in your niche. Apart from this, you need to network with most of these successful bloggers too. Guest blogging is the best approach in this regard. It works in two major ways. Firstly, you link with the big wigs of your niche and that brings more credibility to your blog. Secondly, you also get the attention of the crowd of followers that these blogs have. This crowd is already interested in your general blog niche. Therefore, you have a better chance of permanent readership conversion with this traffic.

Assess your optimization:

Keywords add visibility to your blog in major search engine pages. However, optimizing your post content is not enough. You have to take your blog title in to account as well. In both these cases, the keyword density cannot be too high. However, place the keywords in strategic positions throughout the posts. Chose the keywords that have the higher click rates, since increasing the click rate is the ultimate aim. Optimize your meta-tags as well as the post descriptions. Always track a post’s progress and try to modify the post to avoid the optimization techniques that misfire.

Add video blogging and interviews:

Visual techniques will always be more hard-hitting than simple words. Including a related image that stirs up the readers’ interests can work wonders for your blog posts. However, video blogging is even more intense and not mention interactive. Video blogs need to remain real and innovative. Do not act or put up rehearsed video blog content because it will show. Rather, stick to the original style as much as possible. Add a transcript for your video blog content and do not forget to optimize the title or the transcript. Adding professional interviews, of the other eminent bloggers of your niche, to your blog is a super idea. It will help you network with these successful bloggers as well as add a punch to your own blogging voice.

These tips will add the much needed zest and strength to your blog. However, the ultimate step is adding informative and fresh content to your blog, steadily. The above-mentioned steps can get you increased traffic but your blog posts will ensure their conversion to subscribers.

    Amanda,

I like the fact that your post only focuses on a few key points instead of some of the 20+, 30+ list type of blogs. Our brains can only hold so much info, so its fair enough for us to take these tips you offered and ran with it.

I have tried everything except the video. In terms of guest posting how often and how many should you do?

Is guest blogging really that important? I know it brings some traffic, but from what i’ve heard that’s just temporary, very little or none actually sticks.

Chris, of course guest blogging is important! This is a guest spot, I’d never have read Amanda’s piece if it wasn’t here, it led me to click on her links, and here we are… commenting on her entry, and it’s been tweeted about 17 times. I’d say the proof is right here.

As digital media strategist, I would have to add another important approach is providing links in your articles. Always link back to what you are talking about or have more than one reference. And most importantly, be quick in responding to comments provided on your blog, this will attract readers more to always come back and engage with you.

    Hi, Amanda!
Indeed, very uncomplicated tips, and yet effective and true. We have to primarily what is the goal we want to achieve with our blog, because if we are not clear with it, we cannot even create any success.
As for the guest posting part, I agree it is relevant, although I’ve never been writing as a guest for other bloggers (so far).
I will make sure to check your Urban Design site, by the way.

Guest blogging is an important part of a blogging strategy, but you can’t do it too soon. First, you must build up the content on your own blog and start networking. Once you’ve established a solid reputation, others will be more likely to allow you to share content on their site.

Many webmasters give up on blogs because of maintenance issues – finding relevant content, drawing traffic, turning that into loyal followers – all these involve a lot of effort and time. But having a blog does pay in the long run.
Also while optimizing is essential, we must maintain a balance between search engine and user orientation. Content written with the user in mind shall always outdo that written with bots and crawlers in mind, especially saince both Google and Bing are heavily taking into account the social signals for ranking.
    Good post, FMBW! Keep sharing.

Add video blogging and interviews is the most effective but can be the most challenging activity you can do for your blog. The good thing is blog visitors are more attracted to videos. Another good point is they want to see something new from time to time. So the more interviews you do, the more choices that you offer and ideas you share to your followers.

A Commenter asked if guest blogging is really that important. Oh yes it is! :) Especially if you want to buil a name on a topic. You can tap in the traffic of your audience without having an established blog. But you really need to give great content to stay in the head of your reader.

I think the best way to grow your blog is to interact with your visitors. This way you learn new things and your visitors help you to get new, quality content for your blog. That is great for seo and also for user experience, as most people like to join a conversation or just read the comments to see what other have said :) .

I agree with you. For me, it’s the best way to grow your blog is to leave a good relation with co-blogger and interact with your visitor. Blogging is also a give and take, you give some ideas to other people and you take also ideas from other people through their comments and suggestions.

I completely agree with this. If people are involved with you on an emotional level, they will be much more likely to refer friends and family to your business, as well as talk positively about your brand.

Knowing your blogging goal is very important because it’s the start of a blogger’s journey in the world of blogging. However, not all bloggers plot their blogging goals. Some of them start working with their blogs without that precise plans in their minds.

I use guest posting and blog commenting as my main traffic generation and linkbuilding strategies and I find them to be very effective. The key to making these strategies work is to be consistent and add value to the blog’s community. The other four tips are very effective strategies to grow a blog, too.
