Watch this video if you don’t know how to start a self-hosting blog

I started off blogging in 2009 and the first blogging platform that i used is Google’s Blogger. The reason is that i am totally out of the internet world, afraid of touching technology stuff. Blogger provides me the easiest way to set up a blog at that time. Since then i read up a lot regarding blogging and came across WordPress self-hosted blogging platform. Seasoned bloggers will normally advice you to get a self-hosted blog if you are serious in establishing a successful blog. Self-hosted blog allows you more control and in reality you are the owner of your blog. I decided to switch over but i need to know how should I go about it.

I went searching around in the internet and by chance i came across the video produced by Yaro Starak and Gideon Shalwick. It teaches beginners how to blog and the reason why you should use WordPress to be your blogging platform. There is a total of 10 videos which teaches you step by step to create a blog using WordPress.

Video 1 – Why you should use WordPress

Video 2 – How to get your own domain name

Video 3 – How to get a Webhost

Video 4 – How to install WordPress

Video 5 – How to upload files to your webhost using FTP

Video 6 – Choosing a WordPress themes for your new blog

Video 7 – How to install and use WordPress plugins

Video 8 – How to create your first blog post and first blog page

Video 9 – What is RSS and why you need it

Video 10 – How to use Feedburner for supercharging your RSS capabilities

You can find this in www.becomeablogger.com and don’t forget to subscribe to their newsletter “Roadmap to become a blogger”.  If you wish to progress further, you can join their becomeablogger premium. I would say this video is the most complete tutorial in teaching beginners how to blog. You will find it extremely useful.

    Yup! buddy

I have too visited their site. I agree that wordpress gives you more control on you blog, but i won’t deny the fact that it was blogger due to which i got such a high ranking in search engines.

You would surprised to know that, I have been ranked at position 5th in google, just within a month of blogging. I don’t know whether it is due to my efforts or due to “blogger”, but would still give the credit to blogger.

It doesn’t matter, whether you are hosting on blogger or wordpress. What matters is your content and the search engine rankings.

    Hope you got my point.

    Thanks for sharing.

I think my point of view is not which platform is better. I started off using blogger too and i must say it is pretty easy to set up. They had recently included some additional features such as template design for further improvements. Applauded their efforts there.
This post is for those who wish to have more control of their blog or wants to know how to set up a self hosted blog.

  3. I recommend blogger to wordpress.com or wordpress.org in preference for the beginners. For long run planning I shall suggest to go for both blogging platform dedicating two independent interest to peruse. I have partially overlapped my specialization at Search Engine Optimization and travel tips along with event management tips at places.
