What Young Bloggers Can Teach Us (A Thing or Two)

Young Guns

In blogging, what is the age that you define a “young” blogger? Probably 16, 18 or even 21. It depends on your age. If you are 25, probably 16 or below is consider young to you. I am 35 years old, so anyone who is 21 and below who blogs is consider young blogger to me. In fact 25 is consider young too but at 25 years of age, you probably have started working and not attending school.

Bloggers Getting Younger

Nowadays kids manage to get their hands on with the computer and internet from young and they came across blogging at a young age. That’s the reason why we see a flood of young bloggers plying their trade in the blogosphere. Just take a look on these 7 kids who are crushing it online by Michael. Elsewhere they are the top 30 young bloggers who are doing extremely well online. The author Michael Dunlop himself is a young blogger and entrepreneur who is making an awesome income online with his courses and plugins.

It’s scary just by looking how far they have gone. The computer technology is evolving fast enough to scare me. Looking back, what was i doing when i was 14-16 years old? Besides attending school, i did nothing. Not thinking of my future or what am i going to be in 15-20 years time. We can say probably at that time, “blogging” is not born yet and few people went into online business except for web designer and programmer. Nobody can predict 20 years later, blogging can be so popular and become a career of people.

Many bloggers start from young today. Does that mean you are too late to get started? No matter how old you are, it’s never too late to start anything including blogging. The question is not about timing but whether are you serious enough to treat blogging as a business. We can learn from these young guns who excel in their respective blogging niche.

What Can We Learn From Them?

They are young but they really know their stuff well. There are a few things that these young guns can teach us a thing or two.

  • They know what they want

Young bloggers are completely 100% focus to make their blog a success. You won’t find any distractions on them and they are clear on the fact they are treating blogging as a business. Some of them are attending school. It’s amazing how they can produce quality stuff day in day out with most of their time occupied by school work.

They clearly know what they want out of blogging. That’s the reason why they are able to focus on achieving their targets and goals. If you are blogging and getting nowhere, this is the time to learn from them. You need to know what you want when you blog.

  • They dare to change

They are not afraid of changing things when necessary. Two fine examples are Ben Lang and Peter J. Ben changed his old domain name Ben-Lang.com to EpicLaunch.com in July. That was a bold decision as Ben had already establish himself in the blogosphere and had decent traffic to his blog everyday. He made the decision because he felt it was necessary.

Peter recently switched his blog ideasbubble.com from Blogger to WordPress after so many months of blogging. It doesn’t seem easy as he had to shift everything and there was a lot of work to be done. Yet there is nothing that can stop him as clearly WordPress is the best blogging platform at the moment. I love his new blog design. It’s clean and the layout is nice. Feel free to visit his blog if you can.

  • They have a business mind

Yes, they think like businessman. They created products and sell them. Pop-up Domination plugin by Michael Dunlop is so successful that you can find it almost in every famous blogs . The kidblogger Carlo Cab created Ultimate blogging theme which is used by many bloggers. Devesh from Technshare is looking to release a SEO plugin which could shape the way we do SEO in the near future, so look out for it as well.

Last but not least, i recently came across a 15 year old blogger from India named Jijo Sunny who is only 15. He recently released an advertising network AdIndigo which you can advertise and sign up as affiliates. Take a look if you are interested.

  • They put their talents to good use

Alex Fraiser of Blogussion.com is a typical young blogger who is putting his talents to good use. Take a look at his design in his blog Blogussion. It creates a “wow” factor once you stepped into his site. There was a redesign on Robswebtips.com few days ago which was also done by Alex.  These are some good examples of him showcasing his design and creativity talents. The founder of Robswebtips is also a young 16 year old blogger Rob Rammuny who is well living the internet lifestyle.

Do you have any hidden talents that you can use for? If you have anything that others don’t know, put them to good use and share with others.

  • They make an impact

Why are these young bloggers successful? They all make an impact and influence others. How do they do that? They create products that sells. They teaches us how to live an internet lifestyle. Most important of all, they provided value in their work and help many people with their superb knowledge. We need to acknowledge in order to be successful, we can’t depend on quality content alone. We need to make an impact and influence others. That’s why we need to learn from them by observing their works.

  • They make their presence felt

You can find my friend Onibalusi a young entrepreneur almost everywhere in the blogosphere. He wrote almost 200 plus guest post in a year and almost every big blogs you can find his post. That not only increase his blog traffic and we can’t ignore the fact that he is always there to provide value for readers.

You will be amazed how well he know his stuff as he covers topic from blogging, making money, web traffic and entrepreneurship to blog about.  He spreads his influence really well and this is what we can learn from him.

Wrap Up

I have covered 6 things that these young bloggers can teach us but I am sure there are a lot of other things that we can learn from them. There are many many young bloggers that i have not mention as well but are making an impact in their respective field. Do not feel shame to learn from people who are younger than you because he is a master if he know stuffs that you don’t regardless of his age.

Share Your Thoughts

What else can we learn from them? If you have any add ons to the above listed, please do not hesitate to share with us.

    Hi Lye

What a brilliant post about brilliant young bloggers! These kids are killing it online and I have learned a lot from all of them. Actually, I’ve learned more from these kids than any A-list blog. I think the main thing we can learn from them is just go for it. And that’s exactly what I’m doing. You will see me promoting my editing services more and I’m drafting a blog writing course. I hope to get in up and running soon.

    Thanks for sharing Lye.

    Hey Lye,
First up, you posses all the qualities of the young blogger you mention above too! Haa. So you’re considered a young blogger (regardless of your age…) haa. I can relate what you say above, about what you doing when you’re 16, when there are so many young bloggers ruling the blogging world. Haa. At 16, I also dunno what I’m doing, not until my NS days when
I know I have to create my own future. But at least we are on path to greatness like the young bloggers you mentioned, like Oni, Michael and Samuel :)

Really love the works of all the young bloggers. You guys are going to change the world :)

But it’s never been too late to get started and we are working towards it isn’t it?

    Hi Lye
I have total respect for all the young bloggers who I am learning heaps from. Computers were not around when I was growing up and so a lot of the techie stuff is a mystery to me.
My Gen Y niece does all my graphics and I ask plenty of questions of the techies I bump into in the blogosphere.
I love it that Samuel always calls me Momma. Cheeky chappie :-) It’s great that young people are making the most of this amazing opportunity to build a successful business. Great post as always.

It’s interesting, psychologically speaking they say that people between the ages of 14-22 are less inhibited. It’s a brain development theory that at that age, they don’t appreciate risks the same way that older adults do and therefore are more prone to engage in risky activity. These are the very same qualities that makes entrepreneurs successful is that they aren’t afraid to take risks. It’s just that with the internet now, these young bloggers have a chance to take those risks and become successful online.

As you said you are school student by day, the other thing we can learn from you is definitely time management. Lye,

what you described is true, but I don’t think it applies to (or comes from) young bloggers. Generally any blogger should posses those qualities. I think if we actually compared numbers I have a hunch we’d find a lot more focues people among adult bloggers, than in teenagers. When you’re bubbling with hormones it’s hard to stay focused on business topics.

You have a great point. Every blogger should possess this qualities. Since the young bloggers have taken an effort to possess these quality, i don’t see why adults have any excuses to throw this away.

Thanks for voicing out your opinion. I appreciate that.

You make some great points. I am also 35 and I feel the same age thing. 21-25 seems a little young (borderline) and anyone 21 and below definitely seem like young bloggers. Practically infants.

Generally, in the world, I find what every group one generation ahead feels: I see kids in grade school and high school levels and I despair. I know MY generation was bad… but nothing like KIDS TODAY.

Then on the flip side. I meet these kinds online. They have their acts together. They are smart. They know their stuff. They work hard. They crush it!

I think of what I was like at 16, hell, what I was like at 21, and I am almost embarrassed. These kids are good. They have talent and drive. They bust their asses and get it done. Very impressive.

I have hope again for future generations.

Never before in the history of business have “mature” entrepreneurs learned so much by teenagers, especially in the blogging area. One of the things I saw in one of these blogs recently was that no longer is a blog a part of your business, but the blog is the business. How true! What these kids are doing is creating a new era. They damp the old rules of doing business and they make new ones. I wonder what we are going to learn from them again and again in the next 5 to 10 years.

Young people are venturing into the blogging world each day and they are becoming even more successful than the people they found there. It is true that most of them are still in school but still find time to blog. This should teach some people a lesson because most of the older bloggers have entire days to make their blogs better but they fail to do so.
