Listen To Your Heart and Work At Your Own Pace

Your Pace

We are always subject to bombardment of blogging advice in the blogosphere. How many times we are being told to “walk the walk” and not “talk the talk”. Murray Lunn from Murlu.com had just published a great post sharing how he expect us writers to write effectively in order to make an impact on visitors to take action. Be sure to give it a read.

Murray is talking from author’s point of view. The importance to motivate in our post. As a reader, i understand sometimes it has nothing to do with the author. They have given great advice, providing steps by steps tutorial for us to follow. He has done his part. It is up to us readers to follow through and take action. I differentiate these readers into two groups of people.

  • People who take action
  • People who don’t take action

People who don’t take action will not be encourage by most bloggers. I do not want to touch on the reasons as there are a number of post talking about this. My advice is whether taking/not taking action solely depends on you. I read up a guest post yesterday in FamousBloggers.net. The title is Blogging is Like Driving a Vehicle. I think it can explain nicely why you need to listen to your heart and work on your own pace. You are the driver behind your own car. How fast or how slow you want to reach your destination depends on you. You decide on the speed. Nobody can drive the car for you. Likewise in your blog, nobody can decide for you how your blog is going to turn out. How soon you taste the success of blogging is decided entirely by you.

If you are not taking action, nobody can fault you as it is your blog. If you are taking action but with a slower pace, it’s totally fine. For whatever reasons, you just don’t want to take action at this moment but you believe you will in the near future. Great, bookmark the post that you think is helpful for future reference.

If you want to see success sooner, there is no excuse that you are delaying every single action plan you have to do. If you are just a leisure blogger and have no plans of making use of online business to financially support you, by all means go ahead and work at a slower pace. Grow your blog bit by bit until you see success. How many times do i have to stress it’s all depends on YOU, YOU, YOU?

Your mindset have a say on your results. Look at Onibalusi Bamidele from YoungPrePro.com. He is extremely determined to craft out a presence online and he is able to grow his blog to 1000+ subscribers in eight months. A poor example is yours truly, my blog is growing at a far slower pace but i am totally fine with it. To be frank, i never really do anything extraordinary to have a big readership.

I am suggesting you to sit down and think about your speed.

Are you happy with your pace?

If not, you need to start doing something about it. Don’t delay any longer. If you are happy with your pace, good, continue to keep on working on it. As always, i welcome you to leave a comment to share with us your thoughts.

Share and Enjoy

I think writing at one’s own pace is really important as it helps you to bring forth your best material when you are in the mood to write.

At the same time, you don’t want to let lethargy take over and lose motivation. So, you also want to keep a goal to publish at least once or twice a week.

      Hi Richard,

Definitely we need to write at a pace we are comfortable with. I don’t really agree writing a post under any pressure regardless of internally or externally.

      Thanks for the comments Richard.

Motivation is never my problem. I’ve got that in spades. My problem has always been time. Being a blogger with a six month-old has its ups and downs. There’s no such thing as time-management with a baby. =)

But the heart is always willing! The flesh is sometimes just overworked.

      Hi Delena,

I fully resonate with your time problem. Having a three year old kid who always request for some company doesn’t help much too. We just have to fully utilize while we are working.

    Hi Lye,

True. Though the readers and the responses are vital for the growth of a blog, equally important is that fact that we need to give the correct issue in the correct time in the right fashion. Our qualitative productivity is entirely dependent on ourselves and our heart is the best critic to guide in the right path.

    Thanks for the good article!!

      Hi Lakshmi,

We are our own critic. We will know if we are on the wrong track. Most important is we need to u-turn and get back to the right one.

      Thanks for the comments.

    Hey Lye,

    Thanks for the awesome post!

You are rig on point people need to be okay with the rate they are progessing, because nobody progresses at the same speed. At the same time you must still have that hunger to push yourself to new heights, and accomplish things you haven’t accomplished before. Find your own pace and stick to slowly raising the bar on your competition.

    Thanks again!

      Hi William,

I like what you said. We need to have that hunger always and to slowly raise our bar on our competition. We don’t have to compare our speed to others too.

      Thanks for the comments.

        Thanks for the response!

You are right on point. One should never compare themselves to another. That will be setti yourself up for failure, and that’s the last thing you want to do.

        Thanks again!

    Hey Lye

Great compliment to the post :)

I think you nailed it: going at your own rate. But not just at your rate – but actually DOING IT.

You don’t necessarily need to take action that very moment but if you do … you need to. (I know that sounds weird).

If you don’t need to apply a skill than come back to it later; when you hit that point, you HAVE to do it to keep your pace.

There’s no point in reading tutorials if you don’t feel that you’re ever going to use it, ya know?

Set your goals, find the information you need to do it today and then work through it – gotta do that grind.

      Hi Murray,

You are right. There are certain times which we need to do, we have to do. It can’t be delay as we will just throw it aside.

That’s the reason why i don’t people in buying tutorials, courses which they do not follow. You need to be very sure you are taking action.

      Thanks for the awesome comments.

Great post Lye. Finding one’s own natural pace is critical to success. Pressure, whether external or coming from within, can cause negative effects, so a good pace is essential.

In agile software development (one of my areas) they stress what’s called sustainable pace. Essentially telling managers to stop pushing for more and more and have the team work toward a continuous and estimable production rate. In this way you don’t burn your team out (and cause them to hate you – sound familiar anyone?) The same goes for blogging.

      Hi Robert,

Right on point, only us will know how much effort is required to obtain the desirable results.

Burning out is a issue which can stop us from getting forward. We must always take care of that.

      Thanks for the comments.

    Hi Lye

I agree that we need to go at our own pace. could not keep up with Alex and Murry’s work load lol. They do inspire me however with my blogging and business journey.

Some things I find easy to do and others take me more time. What I have had to appreciate is that as long as I am moving forward and achieving my goals, I am making progress.

And so agree at the end of the day it is up to us how much we want to achieve and just get on and do it!

I have subscribed to Alex’s course. Won’t be much use if I don’t apply what he is teaching eh?! As it is, I am learning heaps and looking forward to each module as I know it will assist with getting my biz plans in place :-)

Awesome post Lye! Why bother when you know that you won’t take action at all? You are the one who will attract success, so to succeed in life really depends on you. So work at your own pace and make sure you put in your best when doing that. Thanks so much!

    Hi Lye!

    I loved this post.

It’s really all about your personal preferences and your life situation which determine the amount of time you can dedicate for your online business.

However … working as a part-time blogger and building my business outside 9-5, the biggest improvement in my productivity has been working with a coach.

I can see the reasons for this as follows:
    a) I’m inspired to achieve much more than before
    b) I’m accountable to someone else of my tasks
    c) Having someone else seeing and listening of what I’m doing and giving feedback is tremendously valuable
    d) I can concentrate on the right things – I’m not wasting my valuable time for less important tasks

I was hesitant first to start working with a coach, but now my views have changed completely :)

      Hi Timo,

Glad you like this post. So true, we need to judge our situation when we are working for our online business.

I have not work with a coach before but looking at your experience, seems to have a lot of benefits. Most important of all is having someone to account for and providing feedback.

      Thanks for commenting, Timo.

    Hey Lye,

There is definitely nothing wrong with going at slower pace if that is what you wish to do. It is important to know what it is you want to succeed and the steps you need to take to achieve this success.

I think once you have a clear goal in mind you can then determine what pace is good for you to achieve your goals. Thanks a lot for sharing your insights.
